This is as good an occasion as any to plug this excerpt from a novella I'm translating with @TejaswiRawal Folks at @wwborders were kind enough to publish the angika text alongside our translation! https://t.co/AimLVzmbYF

@1eyedpessimist YouTube gives stats on who watches my video with age, place, preferences, will not be sharing it publicly, so much of the info is extremely sensitive. But more than that I've plenty of emails and DMs of people telling me how my videos have helped them change their views. Anyone

This idiot doesn't understand that ISI is the Indian Statistical Institute. Then again, I guess I'm the fool for expecting this idiot to get it.

Ah yes, the new phenomenon of frankensteinβs monster being misunderstood, which is definitely a modern innovation and not the entire fucking foundation of the character in the original novel
In the past few decades, monsters have gone from menaces to misfits. Why do we feel the need to humanize them? https://t.co/1Qcb9Q9PXV

Came across this flattering 17th-c. description of Patna by a Gujarat-born attendant of the Mughal governor of Bengal: βPatna is a refined city. By reason of its air, it is a place of perpetual spring. Its water is perfect in taste & agreeable to the stomach (1/2)

and you CANNOT do that if those methods are fundamentally unclear to you, if you openly disregard them, if you continue to fall along the same fault lines that allow reactionary elements to bastardise it. that has always been my problem with ruchika and her ilk.

the problem, to an extent, is that the production of knowledge is mystified. that's something public facing scholarship can and should addresss. you can't democratize knowledge without democratizing the methods that produce it and making them transparent (2/)

to expand on this, I don't think inaccessibility isn't an issue or that academia grants you special epistemological powers. infact i agree with appadurai who posits research-the ability to create disciplined knowledge-as a fundamental right to ensure democratic citizenship (1/?)
everyone and their mother thinks they can do what scholars in humanities do, that there's nothing productive coming out of continued affiliation with academia, that these are just jargon infested ivory towers meant to be toppled

also it's a weakness of character to completely alter your worldview the first time adversity hits you.

why do all men who hate delhi love that trashy small town in UP which is basically an uber conservative sanghi hellhole with decent food where you cannot even take an auto over longer distances without being moral policed by the driver
