We've done this before. It was called "McNamara Morons," and it resulted in hideous casualties among both those in the program, and those around them.
Pvt. Jhared Collins spent the past two years attempting to join the

. He was able to meet the physical requirement, but, after multiple attempts at the ASVAB, his score was in the low 30s, making him eligible to participate in the Future Soldier Prep Course.

Given that the USG keeps saying that if we won't give up our guns and our children we're going to be facing DoD troops in tanks, I find this to be awesome
@GlomarResponder
The big difference between this and Project 100,000 is that they're actually working with these kids to get their scores up, because a lot of them are coming out of public schools where they weren't taught shit. McNamara and the Army just shoved them right into the meatgrinder.
@wombat_socho
It's not like drilling ASVAB math until he recognizes the problems is going to actually make him any smarter, it just gives the army a thin paper shield against criticism that they are once again taking advantage of people who are nearly mentally handicapped to get their numbers.
@8znvQ
@DarnelSugarfoo
He's going to be a fire control specialist, you still going to be happy when he drops a round on an American unit because he got the math wrong?
@GlomarResponder
There's plenty of non-combat jobs for people in the military with those low asvab scores. You don't have to be a genius to be a cook or move heavy boxes around in a warehouse
@brushguypeepwoo
Entire Bn gets food poisoning. Nobody has cold weather gear because you accidentally shipped it to the wrong place. Everything in war is simple, but the simplest thing is difficult.
@GlomarResponder
Best case scenario fellas like this get stuck in menial, support positions where the outcome of failure is inconsequential. Loading/unloading equipment, kitchen duty, etc.

I get your point, and it's probably a fair one. Too bad, because he looks like a nice young man who's heart is probably in the right place. Mom looks proud of him. I hope he does ok.

In 2023 there’s plenty of work to be done everywhere by any skill level along the tree. Congrats to this guy. I’m happy he can pursue his dream.
