Also Nintendo hates putting lore in Mario games for some reason 😠so some points may be reaching (for those I'll put a R for reach lol) but I mostly came to these conclusions with facts showed to us through all the games (including spin-offs).

1. Let's just get this out the way, none of these are the same and all function differently. The latter 2 are specifically lumas that evolved into a greater source of power as a boost (rainbow star is similar to the starman but only has invincibility and runs out after a while).

2. The Star Spirits (gods of the marioverse kinda) created the star rod which contains a variation of starman that allows you to make infinite wishes as long as they aren't inherently evil (bowser used it to become invincible but couldn't actually hurt mario with it.

3. Starmans work the same. Since they are also an extension of the star spirits' power, they create an invincible aura around the user that stops them from taking any damage. Now before ppl go apeshit saying that it has a time limit, let me explain why that's not true...

4. It's just a game mechanic guys.💀 Just like how the fire/ice flowers have a time limit in the galaxy games but nowhere else. Same backwards logic as ppl saying lava instakills white tanooki mario even though that only happens in the 2d games (including 3d land/3d world).

5R. I think that the star only runs out when the user subconsciously no longer feels threatened. That's why in the movie, the star ran out after bowser was defeated. Also the star rod contains a starman so yeah, not sure why it's the same one from Kirby tho. (SAME UNIVERSE???)

6. Invincibility isn't all the star is good for, I have reason to believe you can create things with it. In tennis aces Mario uses it to create constructs (GREEN LANTERN?), Yoshi uses it to grow wings, and Pauline summons a mf building out of nowhere. Only limit is imagination fr

7R. I think the star can also imitate other powerups and energies. In super paper mario the mega star acts like a mega mushroom but looks the same as a starman, and in mario 64 those same stars are used to power the castle and the portal paintings that lead to the other worlds.
