Despite being technically insolvent, the South African public broadcaster's group of top executives have continued to rake in multi-million rand salaries over the SABC's past financial year.

If the SABC is unable to improve on its operational model and continue to suffer financial losses, the bailout money the SABC will receive on Monday is expected to be depleted within 18 months.

Bongumusa Makhathini, SABC chairperson, tells SABC News that the R2.1 billion bailout won't all be used to settle its close to R2 billion debt. Some money will be used to urgently buy new content and some will go towards urgent infrastructure repair and maintenance.
