Florida may never recover from then-Gov. Rick Scott’s decision in 2011 to spitefully reject federal funds to connect Tampa and Orlando via high-speed rail A major Republican travesty in modern Florida history that still hinders transportation to this day

@Flasqueeze Goal was to build using Public Private Partnership. This yr we will have higher speed rail connecting Florida’s 4 major metros (MIA, FLL, WPB and Orlando). Within the next few yrs, it will connect to Tampa. All of this w/o ZERO taxpayer funds and no DOWNSIDE.

@APrasadPE With all due respect Secretary Prasad, it’s broadly acknowledged Florida cities are falling behind their peers when it comes to walkability, and doubling down on road expansion and neglecting public rail investments have made this worse. We should be far better connected today.

@Flasqueeze I seem to recall that Scott had money on a competing rail line.

@Flasqueeze Not to mention it was a career long project for Winter Park Republican congressman John Mica. One of the early examples of Florida state policy for a Fox News.

@Flasqueeze Brightline is excused because it's private. Otherwise, rail is "woke", and Florida is committed to more toll roads.
