Happy to share my latest @Diplomat_APAC op-ed on Jakarta's recent 🌏 defense engagements. My key arguments: •Engagements with 🇷🇺🇨🇳 complement, not replace, 🇮🇩 much deeper defense ties with the West •TNI may struggle to meet Prabowo’s aspirations https://t.co/Km3NjGFfMw

The latest demonstration of Jakarta's continuous effort to modernize its naval hydro-oceanographic fleet over the past decade. An important commitment that deserves praise 👍
The Indonesian Navy’s (@_TNIAL_) new 105-metre ocean-going hydro-oceanographic support vessel, KRI Canopus (936), has successfully floated out at Neustädter Hafen in Bremen, Germany 🇮🇩 🇩🇪 By @FMalufti

@AlexLuck9 But we can’t be sure it’ll never happen, and the fact that top officials have spoken publicly about the plan + its geopolitical weight, it’s worth analysing seriously Even postponed/cancelled procurements could show priorities and alignment

Additional thoughts I shared with @1AmyChew @SCMPNews: -Non-alignment pressure? (the only 'acceptable' logical rationale?) -If materialize, would mark a significant milestone in 🇨🇳🇮🇩 defence ties -Might affect 🇮🇩 relations with Western countries https://t.co/TNsnqHiJQY
My quick comments on J-10 procurement: -This isn’t diversification but overdiversification --> obvious logistical, maintenance, and interoperability challenges -Why J-10? If we 'must' buy something from 🇨🇳, why not other aircraft types we don’t already source elsewhere?

False claim. Many other countries outside 🇺🇸🇨🇳🇷🇺 have developed &/ produced XLUUVs/"unmanned subs." The focus shouldn’t be on claiming a particular “rank” or position. What truly matters is the actual capability the system can deliver 📸 @CovertShores

This movie hits different when you study security studies and live in DC Highly recommended 👍
A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE, from Academy Award winning director Kathryn Bigelow, premieres in 12 HOURS. When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond.

The article has been updated with close-up photos of what appears to be an ASELSAN CENK 200-N radar on KRI Belati's main mast:
On October 24, the Indonesian Navy (@_TNIAL_) commissioned a domestically built 60-metre Fast Attack Craft-Missile (FACM), KRI Belati (622), in a ceremony held at the Sealift Command headquarters in North Jakarta 🇮🇩 By @FMalufti

Singkatnya: interoperabilitas memang rumit — tapi wajib. Nantikan diskusinya lebih lanjut di webinar @SemarSentinel berikutnya.

We traded it with Ambalat, some parts of Sabah, and Siti Nurhaliza
So when did Indonesia hand the island over to Malaysia? 🤣 cc @Jatosint @JatosintRSV @LembagaKERIS @FMalufti @marhalimabas per opening para here 🤣 https://t.co/SWRcN0Hkc4

@ayaelectro We will not be able to do it alone, esp logistically and security-wise. In case of cross-strait conflict, we need some support/permission from key players (🇨🇳🇹🇼🇺🇸)

Interesting discourses surrounding the deal: Some view it as a consequence/demonstration of our long-standing free and active foreign policy. Others argue it shows a lack of a clear geopolitical compass & arms modernization plan --> strategic confusion (?)

Reposting this karena semakin banyak yg bahas India-Pakistan lagi setelah pengumuman J-10:
I spoke with @BBCIndonesia about how 🇮🇩 should analyze 🇮🇳 🇵🇰 recent aerial skirmishes Perang modern tidak hanya "pilot vs pilot" / "pesawat vs pesawat", ekosistem dibaliknya sangat atau bahkan terkadang lebih penting. Beli Rafale, J-10, atau F-35 gk akan otomatis bikin AU gacor

One way to interpret the deal: It's less about capability and more about geopolitical necessity e.g. signaling 🇮🇩 willingness to also make big purchases from 🇨🇳, not just the West It remains to be seen if that’s really Jakarta’s intentional strategy or not

While the deal, if it actually materializes, would mark a huge step in 🇮🇩🇨🇳 defense ties, I’d be cautious about saying Jakarta is “shifting away” from the West I still believe it’s more about an attempt to maintain balance, rather than choosing sides: https://t.co/RhWBiDikeo

Jika terealisasi, pembelian jet tempur J-10 akan menjadi salah satu akuisisi alutsista strategis terbesar dari China yang pernah dilakukan Indonesia. #Polhuk #AdadiKompas

The idea to use Garibaldi as a 'drone carrier' &/ 'HA/DR flagship' has its value. But expecting it to significantly increase TNI AL's combat power and boost regional standing is unrealistic At best, it’s operationally useful but strategically limited https://t.co/F4L1IRBnAZ
Asked by @CNNIndonesia for my views on 🇮🇩 plan to buy 🇮🇹 Garibaldi. Three main things that need to be carfully considered: -Cost (procure & retrofit/modify) -TNI AL's ability to operate & sustain the CV (budget, manpower, fuel, base support, etc) -Operational needs & concepts

"national confidence" "metaphor of courage" "maritime awakening" etc😵💫 These kinds of overblown symbolism/prestige-based rhetoric are becoming a pattern among Garibaldi supporters. Full of buzzwords with little to no attention to technical facts and operational realities

The same goes for Garibaldi. Yes, the ship could add some capability as a drone carrier (IF everything is done right) But claims that it will transform TNI AL into a blue-water navy or provide significant deterrence are overstated https://t.co/JbnY5mATqO
@FMalufti Operational utility on Anadolu is already somewhat debatable. End of the day it remains an improvisation.
