@NateLestrange @ThomasInvincib @MundieMan @DealDewott Right, but if fashion alone is reason enough then there’s literally no reason to give her a childhood trauma related to Dalmatians.

@DealDewott She doesn’t even react to 3 dogs running towards her and they are angry af. No blink, no gasp, nothing. She is probably dead before they pushed her off.

@MundieMan @DealDewott I love the way Maleficent retold the whole story through a new lens so we’d understand why people told the lie that was the original story, while Cruella’s message is basically “Actually it’s totally justified that this rich person wants to skin puppies”.

@Exile451 @MundieMan @DealDewott Honestly, the overblown drama of this scene aside, I liked this movie better than Maleficent, because it doesn’t soften the title character too much. She end the movie just as dangerous and malicious as she was in the original.

@ThomasInvincib @Exile451 @MundieMan @DealDewott Truth. Maleficent completely erased the events of Sleeping Beauty and changed the character into a misunderstood fairy Princess. Cruella is showing the younger years of CRUELLA, letting an evil character be evil.

@NateLestrange @ThomasInvincib @MundieMan @DealDewott Yes and no, because it’s still explaining/excusing her urge to kill a hundred puppies

@Exile451 @ThomasInvincib @MundieMan @DealDewott But there’s already an explanation for her urge to kill a hundred puppies: she wants that fur coat. And we already know her excuse for killing puppies: fashion. WE know puppy skinning is bad, the film isn’t trying to convince us otherwise. Villains are just fun 💁🏻‍♂️

@Exile451 @NateLestrange @ThomasInvincib @MundieMan @DealDewott This right here. If she truly had a childhood trauma then the expected reaction is to *avoid* the stimulus so it makes no sense to attach a negative stimulus to dalmatians. It would've made way more sense to attach a positive stimulus to it i.e.: idealization

@Arlieth @NateLestrange @ThomasInvincib @MundieMan @DealDewott It just strikes me as unnecessarily overblown, like that stupid “twist” reveal about Blofeld shoehorned into 007 Spectre. Might as well say the bad guy from Speed lost his father to a malfunctioning elevator and his mother got run over by a bus.

@Exile451 @NateLestrange @MundieMan @DealDewott Yeah that may have been a studio mandate. It may have been a better film without that specific moment. But the rest of her arc feels solid. Just have the mother be killed some other way and keep that whole revenge arc.
