Police have fired the first round of tear gas in Year of the Rat in Mong Kok, on the first day of the Lunar New Year, as protesters gather in the district.
Today is also the 4th anniversary of the “Fishball Revolution” if you reference the Lunar Calendar. During the 2016 protest, thousands gathered in Mong Kok after authorities tried to clear street hawkers in the area, which ultimately led to Edward Leung being jailed.

HK freedom is losing.
Things turn bad,
it is time for you to choose the right road or easy road,
remember, you are not alone.
Fight for freedom against Tyranny is not a easy road.
Friends, we are together to go in the right road.

Tear gases was fired without any warnings. There was a lot of citizens, hawkers and elderly there.
What have the citizens done so that you must that kind of toxic weapon?
@EricCheungwc
What's the reason for tear gas? I can see there's just food fair celebrating Chinese new year. Street food is tradition & spots to attract tourists. Does it become illegal and life threatening so the police shot tear gas to disperse people?
