Thousands in
#HongKong
are gathering at Central's Chater Garden in the latest rally in
#AntiELAB
.
Protesters in the "universal siege on communists" rally, originally planned as a march from Central to Causeway Bay, can also be seen outside the nearby Court of Final Appeal.
Organisers of the rally have now called on US and European countries to sanction
@hkpoliceforce
, such as stop issuing visas, over allegations of police brutality.
They said that frontline protesters have sacrificed a lot, and peaceful protesters should take one step further.
@hkpoliceforce
While the rally has been peaceful so far,
@hkpoliceforce
have been searching protesters & journalists.
Police snatched the phone of a
@StandNewsHK
reporter as he was filming, breaking its screen. His ID card was also shown in front of a camera (again).

Some protesters have begun moving to Admiralty along Queensway - organisers said this was not a "march" but was intended to allow more people to get inside the park.
A line of police can be seen on Des Voeux Road Central, as a few protesters began setting up barriers.

NEW: A plain-clothed police officer approached the stage and asked organisers to suspend the rally in Central immediately. Organisers are now calling on the officer to show his warrant card.
@hkpoliceforce
@StandNewsHK
Organisers said the rally has now been terminated, and asked people to "disperse peacefully in the direction of Admiralty."
@hkpoliceforce
@StandNewsHK
Police fired tear gas in Central as they forced protesters to leave the rally at Chater Garden. Most protesters have dispersed in the direction of Admiralty.
iCable has a shot of a protester bleeding as he was apprehended by police outside the park.

@StandNewsHK
Riot police have now taken full control over Central, as most protesters have dispersed from the area.
Police claimed they interrupted because "organisers could not maintain order in the rally." But worth noting that the protest was largely peaceful before police intervened.
@hkpoliceforce
@StandNewsHK
On Facebook, "Asia's Finest"
@hkpoliceforce
said the rally had to be ended because "a large group of rioters" committed "acts of arson, road blockage and even brutal attacks" on its officers.
Riot police are now stationed in Central, Admiralty, and Causeway Bay.

@StandNewsHK
The
#HongKong
gov't also responded to the protests by criticising protesters for inflicting damages.
It denounced some protesters for "brutally" attacking police officers who were calling on organisers to terminate the rally. Local media showed the officers suffering injuries.
@EricCheungwc
This gathering has the letter of no objection and yet police are still checking everyone's ID around the area, we must stop
#HongKongPoliceBrutality
now!
@EricCheungwc
Sigh...If you do not have any influence on the internet / in the society, the police may actively attack / arrest you at anytime, just because the management in police team and the government are tolerating, or in a more serious way, supporting these kinds of behaviors!
@EricCheungwc
The peaceful rally was cut short again by the police, which exerted excessive violence to arrest the participants! To frighten us? We will not give up!
