This has never had a hearing. Her argument invokes a mythical rowhouse where a low-income senior created a pop-up, adding units, and does not want to follow current DC laws to sell.

❌ Vote NO on @AnitaBondsDC's TOPA amendment that would strip tenants living in 4-unit buildings of their TOPA rights.

✅ Vote YES on @CMFrumin's amendment to limit the new construction exemption to future buildings only, ensuring that current tenants maintain their TOPA rights.

✅ Vote YES on @CMFrumin's amendment which would also ensure low-income tenants keep the same TOPA rights as tenants living in more expensive buildings.

✅ Vote YES on @ChmnMendelson, @BrianneKNadeau & @CMLewisGeorgeW4's TOPA amendment to ensure tenants in affordable properties have the same TOPA rights as tenants in more expensive buildings; restore some bargaining rights for tenants; and reinstate the cooling-off period

❌ Vote NO on @ChmnMendelson's amendment that would require the court to enter protective orders for the amount of rent landlords request, without hearing from tenants whether they dispute the amount, including for improper subsidy calculations or housing code violations.

✅ Vote YES on @trayonwhite's amendment to give tenants 14 or 30 days’ notice of nonpayment of rent cases, instead of just 10 days’ notice.

✅ Vote YES on @CMLewisGeorgeW4's amendment that ensures landlords are required to follow proper pre-suit notice rules that have protected tenants for decades and prevented evictions when tenants can cure alleged lease violations.

We urge councilmembers to vote NO on the RENTAL Act. But, if it is going to pass, Councilmembers should vote as follows on the proposed amendments to reduce the Act’s harm to District tenants as much as possible: 🧵

If the @councilofdc passes the RENTAL Act today, it will be the single largest rollback of tenants’ rights, perhaps ever. As residents are living in fear of being harassed and deported, the Council should be protecting low and no-income tenants, not making it easier to evict them
