I'm all too aware of huge damage to children's mental health & development from school closures. But hospital admissions above peak of 1st wave until a week ago & a big bang approach to reopening is madness. Who do you trust more - Chris Witty or govt?

@DrSarahJarvis Undoubtedly we will see an increase in infections, but how this will translate to hospitalisations/deaths is unclear given the vaccination of the groups that made up over 80% of admissions/deaths. It would be a gamble.

@VladPutin1 They make up 88% of deaths but only about 55% of admissions, and while all offered vaccine, not all have taken it up.

@DrSarahJarvis Sorry there comes a point when our children need to be put first, sick of this, our children are suffering, enough is enough!

@Bfros17 I agree - but if we end up in lockdown again because cases have risen so fast & schools close they will be in a much worse position

@DrSarahJarvis Hospital admissions stat is not hospital admissions for Covid illness. It includes those who catch Covid in hospital. It includes people who aren't ill with Covid but test positive. We test more now than lockdown 1.

@DrSarahJarvis Chris Witty for sure. This should be the last lockdown even if it means schools not going back as quickly.

@DrSarahJarvis I blame the media! The journalists constantly asking about the road map out of lockdown. Boris Johnson seems to buckle under the pressure and give in. It seems like he has tried to hold the boundary, but is starting to buckle again.

@DrSarahJarvis Thanks @DrSarahJarvis it really frightens me the thought that my daughter who is still suffering from Long Covid since March will be expected to go in to full classrooms with no extra safety! She wants to go back but with new variants and high levels we have to be careful

@DrSarahJarvis Why can’t they just open primary first and make sure when parents collect and end of day that it is staggered pick up to keep distance. It’s the mums that gather round gossiping with no masks etc that’s the danger, not kids.

@DrSarahJarvis How can we trust Whitty if he advises the Govt? If the gov were fundamentally going against what he thought was right he should resign. He is as guilty as the govt for the death toll. He could have made a stand.

@DrSarahJarvis Chris Witty hands-down.. 'God-forgive-me; for saying this, but the Governments of the World have blood on their hands, and until the current economical-model is seen as the head of the chicken, nothing will change. Change will-only come from the bottom-up..
