We close #ArchivesMusic with a rare record of the performances at Camp Lejeune by the Marine Corps Women's Reserve Band during World War II. The conductor, Charlotte Plummer, was until 2003 the only woman to have guest-conducted the Marine Corps Band. #WomensHistoryMonth WWII.223

On Mar. 3, 1923, Arthel Lane Watson, known as “Doc” Watson, was born in Watauga County. Virtually self-taught, he mastered harmonica, banjo and guitar at an early age. It was his guitar playing that garnered the greatest attention due to his unique style. 📷 @NCArchives
