You mean to tell me a section of the galaxy that has long held animosity towards the UNSC might welcome the influence of one of the strongest anti-authority factions in the galaxy? Maybe some specificity would’ve helped, but I just fail to see why this generates outrage.

For an earth-shattering revelation, “turning to the Banished for inspiration and guidance” is incredibly vague. Folks want to read that as if the Banished control all the Outer Colonies when it doesn’t have to be read that way. Let’s at least see what the Waypoint Chronicle says.

“This should have been in a book or something at least.” I actually feel frustration with some of you. I see this, knowing big things happening in the books was deemed verboten by huge parts of the fanbase, only to NOW yearn for a book that reveals big things. Seriously?

@DecepticonCobra This is really cool lore and makes total sense. But meh that it was revealed in a helmet description but it lines up well and has cool implications (that we’ll likely never see in a game 🙃)

@HiddenXperia I don’t know man, we’ve got a Waypoint Chronicle incoming, Empty Throne might touch on it, who knows? I want more substantial stuff too, but I’m not keen on going crazy over “What could’ve been” in my head.

@DecepticonCobra Uh. I don't buy that. The outer colonies were decimated by the Covenant. Your telling me colonists look at Brutes, the guys that ATE PEOPLE, and say "Yea, let's ally ourselves with them"

@samuraisantaiv If it was the Covenant, yeah. But the Banished are renowned for rebelling against the Covenant and in the post-war galaxy have shown willingness to work with humans. And we don’t know the full extent of the relationship either.

@DecepticonCobra I think the outrage is that this massive lore revelation is in the form of a microtransaction and not actual story content

@GurpGurps I mean, we’re getting a new Waypoint Chornicle in the pipeline and Halo: Empty Throne is on the horizon and it could shed some light. And, honestly, I’d question just how shattering a revelation this really is. If it said they completely swore fealty to Atriox, maybe.

@DecepticonCobra Banished in Infinite: "We hate humans. Grrr! Humans weak! We should eat them!" Banished in lore: "We welcome human joining our ranks as long as they're strong"

@Empty_Mags Escherum’s whole deal did feel inconsistent, but in other areas he showed some respect for humans. And we know there was at least one human inspector working for them. Again, context matters and we’ve got very little at the moment.

@DecepticonCobra I think the way the banished were portrayed in the actual campaign doesn't help

@Mily_Artzz Eh, I wasn’t a huge fan of Infinite and can agree. That said, we’ve got plenty of other lore showing how the Banished, or at least other parts of it, operate. I say wait and see.

@DecepticonCobra For one, the group they flocked to helped genocide them and destroyed countless worlds in the Outer Colonies, And for two this is a MAJOR shift in the Halo universe and its been presented in flavor text for a helmet.

@MysticTheWolf4 So what precisely does “turned to the Banished for inspiration and guidance” mean that makes this a major shift? The Banished have already formed connections with human rebels and outlaws. Moreover, the Banished resisting the Covenant probably helps make them more palatable.

@DecepticonCobra The anger I've seen has been that we are getting major lore from a helmet and not a game or a book more than the actual lore itself. But I can't deny some people are probably mad about that too

@Skilledwarman And yet the cynic in me feels that even if it did come from a book the anger would shift that it wasn’t done in a game campaign. Even then, it’s a vague blurb at best that doesn’t even give us the full picture.

@DecepticonCobra its pissing people off because we are getting all this lore in armor descriptions, but never in the games or books. Like we got our first flood infected spartan in armor descriptions and a short side story, but that would have been cool to experience as a mission in Infinite.

@Fobhopper Some folks might be mad for that reason. Yet I know some of those same folks would be mad if it WAS presented in a book. I want more substantial content too, but I’m also staying realistic about what we can get.
