This patient switched between a shimmy to Michael Jackson and two-step to country music. She sat in her chair and eagerly anticipated her 3 walks a day with her music request written and ready while on a PEEP 12/70%.
Every session of mobilizing a patient on a ventilator, they can’t talk, so we ask family- what music should we play for this person? The range of styles we’ve heard- some so surprising, like our tough biker/truck driver dude who loved Cher!

Couldn't help but smile while watching this. It's amazing to see how something as simple as ambulation can immediately improve a pt's prognosis. Risky.., Yes...but worth it. It surely must have taken a lot to pull this off succesfully. Kudos to the team for making it look so easy
@zayotara
It is a skillset and culture they have developed over decades. Just like proning was a daunting feat and now a routine task for COVID19, so will ambulation like this become for most ICU teams in the future. :)

Yes, please! If your team is comfortable with English, I would be happy to share more about the "why" and "how" of this process with them. :)

Yes, this was right before COVID. This team has treated patients this way for nearly 30 years. This is what COVID patients look like there:
@DaytonICU
Very impressive and inspiring! Thanks Kali for sharing these wonderful videos, and for educating us, as a nurse, that there should be no barriers to physical activity for patients in ICU.
