Everything from the Mothers and Nico (presumably with the Velvet Underground) to Sun Ra to the folk-song stylings of Uncle Junior Soprano. Got-damn this city was something.

A very lively conversation here with the great @shebmo about music, booze, and booze and music, if I do say so myself. Plus a (very rare) track from one of my 1980s bands. https://t.co/gW3Qnh6XU8

Good morning to readers, Kyiv remains in Ukrainian hands. Born from a resistance to the Soviet Dry Law, homemade moonshine has become a tradition in Ukraine. Nastia visited her grandma to make moonshine with her and learn her family's unique recipe for moonshine made from jam.

This is how so many parts of day to day life have changed in the last couple of generations. A whole lot of low-level quirkiness has been polyurethaned over.

A #flashbackfriday today to 1948, when Mary Lou Williams hosted a jam session with some female contemporaries in her NYC apartment. Vivien Garry: bass Bridget O'Flynn: drums Mary Osborne: guitar Margie Hyams: vibraphonist & of course, Mary Lou Williams on piano. What a group!
