At last our ‘Reading Vending Machine’ (off eBay for £40) is up and running (after a clean and lick of paint). Children reading at home 3x a week go into a raffle. The winners have a token to buy a book and a hot chocolate from the machine. 👏👍😀📚
Received a phone call from Local Authority yesterday to make an appointment for after hols to discuss our poor SATs results. My response: “of course...and after our chat we can walk around school and see the wonderful learning and curriculum that takes place in our school.”😀
When you see Y6 on the field this afternoon and realise your Y6 teacher is catapulting balls in the air (with revision maths questions attached) for children to chase and answer 😂👍👏
With a TA ill, I thought I’d spend 20 minutes listening to readers outside the classroom to help out. Amongst the most rewarding 20 minutes of my day 😀📚📚📖
No hot choc with the head today as we remain in year group bubbles….instead I have my ‘trolly of treats’ ☕️🍪🧁 as I visit each class to reward our award winners and those going over and above with their behaviour and manners 😀👍💙
I feel so emotional...we’ve worked so hard all weekend to open school today...the government knew the data...the children will feel so mixed up. Terrible leadership by our Prime minister.🥲🥲
Lots of talk in the press today about schools re-opening. Just to put ths talk in perspective...The Tesco Express next to school allows 4 people in at any 1 time. Our classrooms are 1/3 of the size of the store. How many children can we accommodate?
@chrisdysonHT
@ASCL_UK
First day in my new job as an Executive Head….I’m looking forward to the experience, the challenge and the opportunity to work with more amazing staff and children.

Introduced ‘family dining’ this week where each table has 2 Y6, 2 Y5, 2 Y4 and 2 Y3 children together for lunch. Y6 lead conversations. It was indoor lunch today and following lunch the groups stayed the same with Y6 leading board games etc.Great social skills developing 👍👏

A great start to the morning when a Teaching Assistant arrives with something they have been making at home for school....a throne for our new outdoor reading area that we’re developing. Many Thanks Mr James! 👏👏👏👏😀
I wanted to recognise everyone’s hard work following last weeks’ phone call! Told them to bring leisure wear for PE staff meeting tonight….then, after 10min …”Jump in your cars we’re going bowling” 🎳
Work hard, play hard
#teamwork
When you walk into school and see you have been mugged! Thank you to the kind ‘secret’ member of staff for this, what a lovely way to start the day 👏👏😀
In light of this evening’s press conference, I’ve responded quickly and consulted with staff asking their opinions. Where would you like to relocate the school - A) Wales or B) Scotland?
As part of
@pauldixtweets
and
@TheAdultsChange
we’ve introduced our new ‘visitor recognition tokens’. Each visitor has a few to give out to children during a visit. This gives them an active part in our positive recognition practice.
@AthelstanPS
A huge shout out 👏👏👏to
@BrownsBFS
who are selling
#WorldBookDay
books in packs of 🌟50 for £5🌟👏👏 we have purchased 600 books for £60. Each child will receive one on Thursday, their book token, with plenty left to fill our book vending machine. 👍
Every Friday we’re celebrating getting to the end of another week as a staff. This week we organised breakfast baps for all staff to be delivered.

After 7 wonderful years
@Spirejunior
it will be time to move onto a new Headship in September to a large primary in Sheffield. What wonderful memories I take with me and what a fantastic team and school I leave behind 💙
This brought a tear to my eye. We have a family leaving us to be rehoused and they need our help. Each member of staff brought items in for a hamper to help set them up in their temporary home.

So proud of our teacher
@Alex_Bramley3
for being awarded
@TeachingAwards
‘Teacher of the Year in a Primary School’ it’s a pleasure to have you on our team. Well done my friend 👏👏👏🥳🥳
I’m not stressed or depressed, but pro-actively booked a 2 hour coaching / discussion session off site tonight with an experienced leader. It really is good to talk, as it’s a lonely job. I’d recommend making time for these type of meetings with people you respect. 👍
Forgotten your lunch? Not a problem
@AthelstanPS
with this new box in the staff room 😀🎉🥫🥫(Magpied from my previous headship when
@Alex_Bramley3
made one for our staffroom 👏)
I’ve taken inspiration from
@chrisdysonHT
and from tomorrow all FSM children that are self isolating will have a free packed lunch delivered by our pastoral team.
#TeamSpire
#mealsonwheels
What a team we have
@Spirejunior
This afternoon our pastoral team picked up a 2nd hand bed and delivered to one of our children that didn’t have one. Proud to lead a school that has its community at its heart 👍😀💪🏻
Meet Islam....after visiting
@chrisdysonHT
at Parklands and seeing his Friday assembly, I copied the idea of the time table completion to win £10. Islam won and he calculated how many Libyan dinar £10 was and sent it to a Libyan charity to help people in his home country 👏😢
Really pleased with our Ofsted report which we shared
@Spirejunior
today. I think the inspector must have read
@chrisdysonHT
‘s book as he said “it’s a school built on relationships”💙 Our SES written with the help of
@PaulGarvey4
‘s book. 💪🏻😀👏🎉
Over 100 food bags ready to go home to support our families during the Christmas period. We shouldn’t have to work with charities to do this, but sadly, it’s so important and much needed.
Celebration Friday again with the children and staff. Enjoyed giving out these tickets to staff at the end of the day to say thank you for their efforts this week. 😀👏👏
All the children came into assembly today with a number between 1-25. We then had 25 mixed teams for a game of Xmas Multiplication Bingo, with prizes, it was great fun 😀🎅🏻🎄
Please, please, please ‘like’ the tweet below as our reading vending machine has been shortlisted for
#ClassroomStory
award. We use the machine to reward children reading 3x a week (raffle ticket) to use the machine for a new book and a hot chocolate.
For the love of revitalising reading,
@DaveShawICT
has inspired his students to develop a love of reading 📖

I'm delighted to announce that
@Spirejunior
have been shortlisted in the
@tes
School Awards 2022 in the 'Primary School of the Year' Category. A huge 'Well Done' to all of our staff, children, parents and the wider Spire community. 😀👏👏🏆🥳
Happy Workd Book Day - our book vending machine is stocked so every child can come and choose a book free of charge 👏👏📚

It was nice to give each teacher and HLTA a copy of this ‘teacher well-being and self care’ book by
@AdrianBethune
&
@thosethatcan
as part of our Friday treat for staff, to support their well being. 😀🤝
Each member of staff has printed out 3 different book covers and placed each in a unique photo frame to make this lovely display in our school library 😀👏📚📚
@OnjaliRauf
can you spit your book? 😀
Our caretaker was ‘mugged’ today. We have 2 of these and every week they fill the mug full of treats for someone deserving of a boost or a ‘thank you’. The recipient then passes it on the following week. Every little helps 👍👏
When you see a TA welding in the yard after school in a shirt and tie...investigate and see he is making an Anderson shelter for the Y4 classroom (WW2) topic 👏👏
SATs are finished 😀👏🎉 Well done to all our staff and children involved, for all your hard work and efforts. As a reward we arranged for the ice cream van to call into school. Even the local police joined us 😀🍦👮♂️👮♂️
Staff gone over and above in preparing their classrooms for immersive learning. Y5 are learning about the victorians and have a fake brick wall and a fireplace! (Screen)
Having a break from Twitter during the hols but had to share this amazing act of kindness from
@ChesterfieldFC
@spireitestrust
. We had pastoral staff delivering sledges filled with a 3 course meal and a board game to our most vulnerable families, donated from them 👏👏👏👏🎅🏻🎉🎄
Really excited to be the first school in Derbyshire to be working with
@DerbysPolice
launching Mini Police with our Year 5 children. The aim of the weekly programme is to introduce children to a positive experience of policing and to get them involved in the local community.
The perfect way to return to work after the hols. Harrison has bounced into my room this morning to show me his ‘Young Person With Courage’ Award that I nominated him for. What an inspiration he is 💙 Thank you to
@ChesterfieldFC
@spireitestrust
for organising the event 👏👏😀
We don’t have much, but thanks to
@magic_breakfast
we were able to give each child a box of cereal to take home today. Hopefully it will help a little to support our families 😀
Severe flooding in the area today meant we cancelled staff meeting to allow staff to get home, meanwhile staff who lived locally stayed with children whose parents were stuck in traffic until they were collected. Some staff have just got home. A great team effort 👏👏👍
#teamspire
Back to school tomorrow and I’ll be excited to see this superstar after recently finishing his Chemo. What an inspiration he is to us all
@Spirejunior
We’re proud of you H 👏👏💪🏻🏆👊
Spent the day planning our INSET day for September and while looking for something came across this video of an old assembly for parents to showcase my classes learning…we’d been swimming so did this. Still makes me laugh 😂🏊🏊♂️
Food parcels for all the children who are self isolating and eligible for free school meals were available to collect today. Proud of how we continue to look after our pupils 😀👍
After saying goodbye to the children, and waving them off I kept the emotion in...walked across the empty yard and shed a tear. I really hope everything will be ok for our families, our staff and our community 🤞 😢
When you arrive at school early to see a member of staff going round classrooms to leave these on people’s desks. What a lovely positive culture of care we’ve built
@Spirejunior
😀💙
Happy Friday everyone 😀
Momentarily had a panic attack when returning to my room this afternoon to see this outside! I thought someone had dramatically changed our behaviour management system! Turns out it’s a manakin waiting to be picked up after Y3 had borrowed it. 😂😂🙈
Our Y3 children have been to the shopping centre in Chesterfield as we’ve hired a shop for a few weeks to showcase our geography work, which includes a town they have designed and made themselves. Members of the public will critique the work in a comments box 👍👏
Staff amaze me how they go over and above for our families. A parent phoned to say she had no food and needed support. Before the end of school we had a food parcel prepared and delivered to her so her children will be well fed over the weekend. 💪🏻👏👏👏
Wow! What an amazing morning
@Spirejunior
Receiving a Silver Award for ‘Headteacher of the Year in a Primary School’ in this year’s
@TeachingAwards
Every child and member of staff at Spire are part of this award - you’re all brilliant 👏👏🏆

A lovely morning with a visit from Michelle Shooter, the Assistant Chief Constable of Derbyshire Police, to officially launch our Mini Police project in Y5 and give caps to the children 👏👏😀🚓
@DerbysPolice
Early start as we take all of
@Spirejunior
to Chester Zoo for the day 🦓🦒🦧. The visit is free of charge for all thanks to fundraising and free entry tickets from
@chesterzoo
👏🙏 Thank you and we will see you soon 😀
A lovely setting
@ChatsworthHouse
for our INSET day today as we work with the education department to organise the opportunity for each of our children to achieve the discovery arts award 😀
We’re so lucky
@Spirejunior
that during the last 10 school days, every child has visited
@ChatsworthHouse
to work with an artist from America on a sculpture for the Burning Man Exhibition. We can’t wait to see it released. Thank you for having us. Experience change lives 😀💪🏻👏
I’m just popping out of school to deliver a few certificates (+hot choc and creme egg) to parents for supporting their children with their home learning. It’s a tough job and you’re all doing great 👏👏 Idea magpied from Twitter but can’t find the original - thank you though 👏👏
As confirmed by the Prime Minister this evening, we are asking education and childcare settings to prepare to open for more children from 1 June.
We will publish further guidance setting out more information for early years, schools and colleges tomorrow.
After saying goodbye to our fantastic Y6s (and Y3,4 and 5) , as we finish for the summer, finished the day with a BBQ to say thank you to the fantastic staff
@Spirejunior
👏👏👏
Moving day from
@Spirejunior
It’s been an amazing 7 years working with colleagues, children, parents and the wider community.
Locked up for the final time 😀😢
One of the most important pieces of home learning today:
IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL PARENTS AND CHILDREN....it’s snowing...so please leave your home learning and enjoy the snow in your gardens. Fun in the snow and fresh air...is so important for your mental health.
Well it’s been the most challenging week of my career....open sch, close sch, online learning, key worker & vulnerable places...the list goes on. But we’ve done it - well done everyone for getting to the weekend 💪🏻💪🏻👏👏 A huge thank you to all the staff
@Spirejunior

Enjoyed making bacon / sausage/ egg butties for staff at lunch time as a thank you for their efforts this week 👏👏 thank you to fellow leaders
@Alex_Bramley3
@MrsVernon4
for your support this week and for your frying skills today 😀👍🥓🍳🌭
A wonderful morning visiting
@ChatsworthHouse
to see the sculpture our children
@Spirejunior
helped to create - each one producing a diamond filled with pebbles to cover the mermaid as well as creating the mosaic base. What an experience and it looks fantastic 😀👏👏⭐️
So lucky to work in such an amazing school in
@Spirejunior
Today the school cook made breakfast bacon butties for all year 6, then made muffins for them as a break time treat. A reward for finishing their SATs. She even put a cake in the staff room to say well done to staff 👏🍰
Loved seeing the introduction of Well-being Wednesday today. 1 member of staff won an extra day at half term and one of our Year 4 classes won a 20 minute meditation session 👍😀💪🏻 Thqnk you
@Alex_Bramley3
for organising.
Walked into
@Alex_Bramley3
‘s Y6 class yesterday. They were playing musical chairs and when the music stopped they had to find the nearest seat and answer a grammar question before the music restarted. Genius! A real buzz for learning in the classroom 👏👍
What a wonderful first week
@AthelstanPS
I’m so lucky to work with such wonderful staff, children and families. Thank you to you all for a lovely welcome.
#bestjobintheworld
Really proud to be informed that
@Spirejunior
have been shortlisted for ‘Creative School of the Year’ in the
@EdTodayMag
Awards for our curriculum and the opportunities it provides for our children. A huge well done to all the team 👏👏🎉🎉😀
All the books are ordered for our school class advent calendars. Every child will receive a book during the month...each being invited into the hall to pull their prize out of their classes stocking.
@Alex_Bramley3
started our Y6 one today.

👍👏🎅🏻📚
Love this piece of steel art work we now have outside school. We will never forget our key workers and how they have supported our local community and across the country. 👏👏
#edutwitter
In the last week we’ve published our fantastic ofsted report for
@Spirejunior
and received our best ever SATs during my 6 years at the school. It takes time to create a culture and build a team. A huge ‘Well done’ to all involved 😀👏👏🎉🍾
