I went to confession for the first time in 42 years this past September (right after reverting to Catholicism). I've been going regularly since. Reconciliation with God is a very important sacrament that we should all do. It's freeing.
In 1950, 80% of Catholics went to confession at least once per year.
In 2022, that number is down to 37%.
35% said they never do.

I came back due to a multitude of reasons: Mother Mary, the saints, the early church fathers, church history, the sacraments, the Eucharist, Peter the rock, the need for authority, church architecture.... The list goes on and on.
