I was profoundly saddened to learn of the tragic events that unfolded in Charlotte, NC. The loss of 4 officers, and another 4 injured is an unimaginable blow to the U.S Marshals Task Force and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the law enforcement community. 1/2

As with any major incident in a public place, we understand citizens are concerned. We are incredibly lucky that no lives were lost and we are grateful for all of the witnesses who have come forward. Added thanks to WEM security and first responders for their assistance.

The last three days have been incredibly taxing on our officers. Various resources and units have had to be deployed to address public safety concerns. I want to thank officers for continuing to show their resilience and dedication to serving and protecting the city.

There is considerable work yet to be done, but as released today, we are making progress. Initiatives like our transit teams are beginning to make a difference - crime severity on LRT is starting to go down, thanks to working with @cityofedmonton and @BentArrowYEG .

The violence that’s unfolded in our city over the past 72 hours is completely unacceptable. Officers have been working tirelessly to uphold public safety, but this cannot continue.
