Back in Hereford briefly. Sometimes the best quiet pints are in the least quiet pubs

#Viz45 When the history of British comedy is written Viz will straddle this last half-century like the Colossus of Rhodes. So good I treasure original artwork by Viz maestro @DHBJones, which hangs pride of place in my taxidermy room.
Happy 45th anniversary to @vizcomic launched on this day in 1979. Here's the cover to that first edition.

I watched the one with Simon Callow as a chainsmoking GP who is a bit of a lothario and gets midsomer murdered by a bloke with a knife

God grant me the serenity to not bother watching any of the election after all because there's fuck all I can do about it either way and to just watch an old episode of Midsomer Murders instead and then go to bed

As this was my attempt to make puff pastry a few years ago I tend not to put myself forward as an expert on such things, but that's just me

Next time the Prime Minister goes abroad, I wonder if he'd mind hiding ten packs of Golden Virginia in his luggage for me? I'd give him a couple of quid per pack over the cost price, and that money could go straight where it's most needed.

Forgot to say that the new issue of Viz is in the shops, and there's pontifical shenanigans with Pope Francis

There's nothing I enjoy more in life than giving @DHBJones the stupidest idea we can think of and watching him spin fried gold. In this case, anachronistic flatshare antics with PLINY & SUSANNAH holding up the back pages of The Fence #21. Out TODAY. https://t.co/U2LPsA7K9T

Another McLachlan cartoon from Private Eye. Always liked the understated amusement of the policeman in the first picture.

Very sad news that the great Ed McLachlan has died. A brilliant, inspirational cartoonist who never failed to make you laugh. And very kind to up and coming artists. I absolutely loved his work! This was his own favourite cartoon, from @PrivateEyeNews

This is very sad news. Top-tier gag cartoonist, and his drawings always gave great pleasure.

Just seen the news that Humphrey Smith has decided to retire as head of the Sam Smith's pub chain. On a completely unrelated matter issue 339 of Viz, in which the Real Ale Twats visit their local "Sydney Smithers" pub, should still be available in the shops.

Incidentally, the piece of paper signed by Herr Hitler which Neville Chamberlain famously held in his hand was actually just the corner ripped off a Farmfoods catalogue, and recently sold in auction for over a hundred pounds

1981 - that's 43 years ago. 43 years before that, it was 1938 and Neville Chamberlain was holding in his hand a piece of paper signed by Herr Hitler. And 43 years before THAT, King Henry VIII was abolishing the monasteries. Makes u think
