Scotland has been an ambitious trailblazer in active travel in the past, we need to translate that ambition into commitment and delivery. We will continue to work with the Scottish Government to ensure cycling and walking is part of its plans for a greener and healthier Scotland

With a third of Scots currently doing little to no physical activity each week, we need to find ways to enable people to make shorter journeys more active. It stands to benefit public health, both mental and physical, as well as our economy.

They don’t address how congested our roads are, which deters people from using healthier forms of transport, although scrapping the peak rail fares is a good step to making public transport more accessible.

It’s a relief to see that tackling the climate crisis remains one of the @scotgov top priorities in this #ProgrammeforGovernment but the lack of a clear plan to encourage more active travel, such as cycling and walking, makes that challenge harder to deal with.

Getting people out of cars is beneficial and popular, on an individual basis but also across society. Change is essential and these targets are not arbitrary. 🥳

We’ve waited for a long time for the Route Map to 20% by 2030 to come out and now it seems as if government is lost and lacking direction. 🤷♀️

In 2020, the Scottish Government committed to reducing car km by 20% by 2030. We praised their ambition then, and hoped they’d follow up with bold action towards modal change. 👏

It’s disheartening to see that Scottish Government have dropped their own target on reducing car use, this week. 🧵
