Today, school buses and cars are still the most common modes of transportation. We’ve come a long way since horses and buggies. How do you think people will travel to Crystal Cave a hundred years from now?.

In the 1930s, when cars became more affordable, people started driving to Crystal Cave. In the 1950s, bus tours were common. This is because the supplies for car manufacturing were needed during WW2. These tours were so popular that in 1952, 32 buses arrived on a single day!

When Crystal Cave first opened, people traveled by stagecoach. In 1874, the owner purchased several stage coaches which were used to ferry travelers from the Kutztown and Virginville train stations. One of these carriages can be seen at Crystal Cave's museum.

Louis D. Sander’s family were blacksmiths. He eventually became a machinist according to the 1876 Kutztown Census. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1881. He was almost 24 years old.

Charles W. Snyder came from a family of shoemakers and eventually became a photographer and artist. He was also the president of the Kutztown town council. He saved trees on land which eventually became Kutztown Community Park from being cut down. He lived until 1927.

The earliest signature is dated from June 25th, 1879. The Signature Room wasn’t rediscovered until 2009. During the days of the Crystal Cave Inn and parties at the Crystal Cave ballroom, some people entertained themselves by finding remote parts of the cave.

Did you know there’s an 18 by 25 foot chamber deep in a side passage at Crystal Cave in which 80 people signed their names between 1879 and 1918? . It’s called the Signature Room!
