He was truly a catholic saint. No matter where you were in church, or how long you'd been in church, he was a friend and a brother. May we all be more like him. I love you, Paul. I'll miss you dearly. Go ducks.

In our last talk, I got to tell him I finally agreed with him. We laughed a lot. We talked about priesthood and the necessity of humility and kindness. He rejoiced at my faith, my new church, our agreement, and all the Lord had done for my family.

His friendship expressed his rightness. A former missionary, a seminary student; an avid Church of Christ, a Reformed Baptist. Yet, we were both priests and members of the universal Church. And we still are. He made sure to tell me that the last time we spoke.

He believed, and we often debated, that I didn't live as if I truly believed we were all priests of God and that Christianity was more than just what happened in my local church. Over the last two years, the Lord showed me just how wise this man was.

I was friends with him for over 7 years. He, in his late 80s; me in my early 30s. Yet it was one of the deepest friendships I had. We both loved the desert fathers, and we constantly discussed the priesthood of believers and the catholicity of the Church.

One of the most formative times of my Christian life was the hours I spent discipling and being discipled by Paul Jones. A former doctor, missionary, and a Christian for over 60 years. His passing hits me hard this morning.
I spent 6 months discipling and being discipled by an older Saint. It was one of the most formative experiences of my Christian life. A former missionary who was a Christian 60+ years. Spoke to him just a few months ago. He passed away last night. Pray for his family. Go ducks.

“Humble before God and courteous to his fellow-man, Bavinck always refused to compromise his Saviour whose voice he heard in the Scriptures.” -Cornelius Van Til

“The false church…assigns more authority to itself & its ordinances than to the Word of God; it bases itself on humans, more than on Jesus Christ; it persecutes those who live holy lives according to the Word of God & who rebuke it for its faults, greed, & idolatry.” Belgic 29

“Just as wood does not burn because it smokes but smoke nonetheless signals the presence of fire, so a truth confessed by the church is not a dogma because the church recognizes it but solely because it rests on God's authority.” -Herman Bavinck

“Christians have never been so narrow-minded as to dismiss all scientific research advanced by unbelievers as false…because [Christians] believe that God, the same God, whom they confess as their Father in Christ, causes the sun to shine upon the evil and the good.” -H. Bavinck

In every moment of time beats the pulse of eternity; every point in space is filled with the omnipresence of God; the finite is supported by the infinite, all becoming is rooted in being.” Here, I believe Bavinck lays out the thesis for all of his writings and his entire system.

“The world itself rests on revelation; revelation is the presupposition, the foundation, the secret of all that exists in all its forms. The deeper science pushes its investigations, the more clearly will it discover that revelation underlies all created being.

“Only advice I can offer: he will never stop. He will never listen. Don't let yourself be consumed with him.” This is the best advice you will ever be given in how to deal with unrepentant narcissist and abusers. After warning them once or twice, if they don’t repent: leave.
@Acts17David I would DM but for some reason can't. I'm stunned. As you know, I don't travel in your circles much these days, so I had no idea this was happening. And I try to avoid listening to SS as much as humanly possible. As you know, he started coming after me years ago, and I forgave
