6/ Key impacts: 📸 Mechanistic insight into quinone-binding antibiotics 💊 Toolkit for new antibiotic development 🧫 Probes for live-cell membrane biochemistry 🧪 General method for tagging hydrophobic PPQs.

5) We then used fluorescence microscopy with @MarkusWeingarth @UniUtrecht and found out that MBAMPs cause menaquinone clustering and vesiculation, resulting in rapid membrane collapse🔬🦠💥.

4/🔍 Eilidh made fluorescent analogues of PPQs targeted by menaquinone-binding antimicrobial peptides (MBAMPs) 🎯and quantified their binding affinity using Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC) with @NatMart_Chembio @UniLeidenNews 🔥⚖️💧.

3/🧪@EilidhMatheson_ developed a concise labelling strategy to attach chemical labels at the very end of the polyprenyl tail. This worked for both ubiquinone and menaquinone👩‍🔬🔧.

2/ Polyprenyl quinones (PPQs) like menaquinone are essential for bacterial electron transport🦠⚡and are emerging antibiotic targets. However, their greasy, hydrophobic nature has made them a nightmare to functionalize! 😵‍💫🧪.
