St Vincent de Paul. Meek and humble of heart, he took part in the royal councils with the same evangelical simplicity, and clothed in the same poor + shabby garments, in which he traversed the streets of Paris rescuing waifs and strays & succoring the helpless sick and suffering.

St Camillus de Lellis. Spent his life in ministering to the sick in hospitals. He instituted a congregation of regular Clerics, devoted to care of the sick. He's their celestial patron, also hospitals, nurses + physicians, those who are at the point of death, and against gambling

St Alexius the Man of God. Only son of wealthy Roman noble, family known for piety and generosity. For Christ's sake he left his home and, poor and unknown, devoted his life to God's service. Lived as a beggar in Syria, 17 years. Memory venerated in many lands. Patron of beggars.

St. Henry II, Emperor of Germany. Held in veneration by all. Spread ✟ & advanced piety & religion among his subjects. Defended the Church and the rightful Pontiff against opposing factions. He spent his treasure founding episcopal sees, enriching churches, endowing monasteries.

Saint Anacletus, Pope, Martyr. The 3rd Pope. Likely ordained by St Peter. Banished from Rome and returned to rule the Holy See a 2nd time. He completed Peter's tomb at the Vatican. Decreed that bishops be consecrated by 3+ bishops, & clerics publicly ordained by their own bishop.

Saints Nabor and Felix, Martyrs. Soldiers, they refused to sacrifice to the gods worshipped by the Empire and the army. A married noblewoman named Savina is said to have comforted them in prison, and then to have secretly buried them in her own house after their execution.

Saint Pius I, Pope, Martyr. Known for his efforts to combat heresy, specifically Gnosticism (separate gods of natural and spiritual worlds) and Marcionism (separate gods of OT and NT), and for establishing that Easter should be celebrated on a Sunday. Assisted St. Justin Martyr.

Seven Holy Brothers, Martyrs: Januarius, Felix, Philip, Sylvan, Alexander, Vitalis and Martialis. St Rufina and Secunda, Virgins, sisters: Rather than lose their consecrated virginity, accepted martyrdom. The forest hitherto called Dark Wood was renamed Bright Wood in their honor

Sts Cyril and Methodius. Two celebrated apostles of the East. Cyril and Methodius visited Rome to seek the Pope's approval for the use of the Slavic liturgy. At Peter's tomb, they placed a venerated ikon (Savior between Peter & Paul) on which is traced an inscription in Slavonic.

St. Elizabeth, Queen of Portugal. Distinguished for her devotion to the poor and her heroic acts of charity. Her special grace was that of making peace. The joy caused at the Aragonese Court by the birth of Elizabeth brought about the reconciliation of her father and grandfather.

Saint Anthony Mary Zaccaria. Founded the Barnabites Order 500 years ago. St AMZ was a learned and charitable medical doctor. Believing that souls were more in need of healing than bodies, he became a priest. Following their holy founder, every Barnabite adds the name Mary to his.

Octave Day of the Sacred Heart. The Institution of the Feast was a result of appearances of our Lord to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in 1675. She suffered contempt from many who refused to believe the authenticity of the visions. The French bishops helped make it a universal feast.

Saint Leo II, Pope. In his brief pontificate he was known as an eloquent preacher who was interested in music, and noted for his charity to the poor. Condemned the heresy of those who asserted that Christ had only one will (Monothelitism). Christ has two wills (divine and human).

THE VISITATION OF THE BV MARY. In honor of this mystery, Saint Francis de Sales instituted the order of the Nuns of the Visitation. The original design of this kindly saint was that the nuns should imitate the Blessed Virgin in her charitable assistance in the house of her cousin
