RCMP say they had attended Jesse's home previously for calls that included mental health concerns, which occasionally included hospitalization. RCMP say it's too early to speculate about a motive for the shooting. We will have much more coverage on the News Hour at 6 and beyond.

1 victim was located in a stairwell, the others in the library. RCMP recovered 2 firearms.. a long gun and a modified handgun. 2 victims with significant injuries were transported by air ambulance with serious, life threatening injuries... 4/

Officers got to the school approx. 2 minutes after receiving the emergency call. When they got there. they came under fire and shortly after that the shooting stopped and the shooter was found dead. 1 female teacher, 3 female students and 2 male students were found dead.. 3/

The shooter is 18 year old Jesse Van Rootselaar who was born a biological male but began the transition to female 6 years ago. She shot and killed her mother and step-brother at home before going to Tumbler Ridge Secondary and opening fire there.. 2/

NEW: RCMP confirm 'multiple victims' in active shooter situation in #TumblerRidge, BC. Lockdown is over at Tumbler Ridge Elementary school (adjacent to secondary school) and parents are allowed to pick up children now.

The Tumbler Ridge active shooter incident is still unfolding. Although RCMP say one suspect is believed to be deceased, they're trying to determine if there is another one. Be wary of details beyond that.. we simply don't know yet. When we know, you will know.
