Senator Regina Doherty is notorious for having said: "today we probably have around nine genders…”
I emailed her at her office on 4 December 2022 (cc'd Taoiseach and IHREC) asking if she had ever identified these 9 or so genders.
Still waiting for an answer.
Will I get one?

Come now, it’s very difficult to answer this question. In fact, not unlike the Observer Effect in quantum physics, attempting to count genders collapses them into a definite state, and, as the Senator put it, this would ‘diminish any other gender within the gender identity set.’

I stand corrected! Who could have appreciated that, in (apparently) refusing to answer my question, the Senator was just displaying a firm grasp quantum genderology.

In fairness the good Senator may have got confused with cats which have 9 lives. Politicians too have several lives & often transition in the Senate or reincarnate on another planet.
@DerekMPH
True. I hadn’t considered that.
And indeed, having been rejected by the voters, she underwent an apotheosis to the Mount Olympus of Irish Politics, An Seanad, which may have instilled in her a belief of the prevalence of metamorphoses.
@helerina
I am shocked to hear that!
I once had a letter from a Minister’s Private Secretary telling me the Minister would be in touch with me as soon as possible (or something to that effect.) I can’t remember the day or month, but the year was 1995!
