For all those reasons, we have decided to merge the Android and iOS apps into a single Flutter greenfield project.

In conclusion, our experience with Flutter so far is awesome. The framework fits perfectly with our needs, and the team simply loves it. The DX was boosted. We're releasing more features in less time, with fewer bugs!

We are also keeping an eye on @shorebirddev to understand if the solution is sustainable with our customer base: 3M+ MAU.

For us, the use of the SDUI was strategic, enabling us to update or fix bugs remotely with no need to release a new version through the stores. We adopted @stac_dev for this. We avoided publishing hotfixes in favor of a better release and customer base management.

... and we are happy with it. Now everything is clear, separated, and ready to scale. We have organized the code in a Dart monorepo where we have the common stuff like the design system or the network client, and each feature has its dedicated package.

With Flutter, we have halved the time to market and improved the daily developer experience. The entire team can focus on designing a feature without needing to split their effort across platforms. We are designing features with a micro frontend approach in mind...

The team that works in Flutter was composed of part of the native original teams (both Android and iOS) and some devs from the web team. Only 1 dev has an initial friction with Dart, while the rest of the team works like before (and the web devs love the migration to Dart).

With Flutter, we made different feats that are now in production. We choose the add-to-app approach. It was not easy to manage the engines in the host apps, and we also had trouble related to using custom plugin implementations in the host apps.

For a large project like ours, the best approach would be to have a common shared code. We choose to migrate the Android codebase to KMP. Unfortunately, our CB was too tightly coupled with Hilt, and most of the code is not well separated. We need a deep refactor.

Using react native feats inside the native apps was a nightmare. Having to manage the npm dependencies and the related folders was not a good experience at all. Probably it was a skill issue, but it's sth far from native development.

The native is great, but since the project is getting old and there has been a lot of turnover during the years, we have a lot of (unmanageable) tech debt inside it. Then, tackling the same bug twice can be stressful, and often a solution does not work on a platform.

In my company, we decided to switch to full Flutter after: - years of native - years of React Native features in the native app - uncountable PoC for KMP - different feats made with Flutter (add-to-app) Why that decision? π§΅π
Native vs RN vs Flutter - If you want a fully native feel, go native - If you want cross-platform and still feel "native", go with React Native - If you want cross-platform and you have your own design and don't care about looking native, go with Flutter I like to have a fully

I had a bit of a headache today so, instead of being productive, I wrote a rant. Here it is: https://t.co/G69ZbzBRN0
