and I analyzed more than 2,000,000 airdrop events across 40 protocols to build data-driven recommendations for airdrop design
With all the recent talk of "low-float" as the main culprit for recent price volatility, the results may surprise you ๐งต๐
We categorized airdrops into buckets based on the two most important criteria:
- Eligibility: Reward Core users vs airdrop to Widespread audience
- Size: Drop a smaller % or larger % of token supply
Insights
1/ 30 of the 40 Airdrops had prices "lower" than TGE two months out
1/ Airdropping to Core cohorts showed higher prices two months after airdrop than Widespread cohorts
2/ Airdrops to Widespread cohorts sold at 2x the rate of Core cohorts
3/ The "Small Airdrops + Coreโฆ
Recommendations:
1/ Bias Airdrops to Core Users over Widespread audiences
Given the improved performance of Core cohort airdrops, it's preferred to increase rewards for the early community. Airdropping to Widespread audience will result in greater selling, and imo it's veryโฆ

Take care of your core members and the rest takes care of itself.
I see no reason why crypto would Defi the 80/20 rule.
Thanks for this fantastic breakdown.

Calculating token balances is a surprisingly difficult thing, so I don't want to immediately claim this data is wrong, but these numbers are not what I get
For ARB, I calculated that 40k out of 583k wallets still held at least the size of their airdrop after 60 days
