@Noahpinion You absolutely have run into a British cultural practice --- it's called "taking the piss". You had one bad experience at an airport (partly caused by your own dumb transfer decision) and decided this proves BRITAIN HAS FALLEN. That's just objectively funny, sorry.

Society no longer allows ordinary people to be this cringe. Only in a trillionaire containment zone staffed by yes-men can it metastasize to this point.

In a few years, people will look back and note that the primary effect of pandering to anti-science audiences on YouTube was a temporary spike in revenue paired with a long-term erosion of credibility. What will happen next? ... Oh wait, that's right, they always just do it more.
In a few years, Americans will see that the only consequence of defunding parts of academia was fewer publications which no one cares about anyway. What will happen next?

Great thought! We heard about these injustices too and did a deep dive on the claims made back on the first episode of the podcast. Sound quality isn’t great but lots of info there! https://t.co/77TOX15wae

Just a thought 🤷🏼♂️ Back in 1985, a grad student named Eric Weinstein told the biggest genius in physics, Edward Witten, about a wild new idea: our universe isn’t stuck in string theory’s tiny curled-up dimensions. Instead, it naturally grows exactly 3 families of particles (like

It's amazing how many of the online pundits interact with Grok. This exchange with Ryan Grim is amazing.
@grok @Northsider1060 Grok I’m going to block you if you are truly this misinformed. This is communism 101. The whole debate between Stalin and Trotsky was over this question and Stalin won. It is idiotic to say that supporting Korean resistance to Japanese occupation or Vietnamese resistance to

The Democratic establishment loves to say the party needs to move to the center, as if they're not already there. In New Jersey and Virginia, deep blue states, they managed to nominate two national-security Dems who aggressively stand for nothing beyond poll-tested platitudes. So

If there is a sacred value for Bret, it is his commitment to the belief that you can promote any conspiracy theory as long as you present it as "just asking questions". He is very consistent on this specific principle.
"What a terrible error it is to go after anybody who has legitimate questions about the interaction between the United States and not only a foreign state but a particular administration that has a very hard line bent within that foreign state. You're allowed to have questions.

Bret’s tendency to ‘just ask questions’ that promote anti vaccine rhetoric and remarkably vacuous conspiracy theories is not related to him being Jewish. He deserves all the credit himself.
Asking questions is a skill I am proud of, one I picked up from Jewish culture. I’m not “just asking questions.” That’s defensive. Punishing people for asking difficult questions, and deciding your analytical position based on who else believes something, IS antisemitic.

This is genuinely insane. I mean, just worryingly divorced from any reality. How desperate are people to believe this nonsense?
Elon Musk: "These lovely small towns in England, Scotland, Ireland, are living their lives quietly [Like The Hobbits in The Shire] — until one day, a thousand people show up in your village of 500 out of nowhere and start r*ping the kids." https://t.co/iPNQosh0wH

I wonder if this is illustrative of how long the Fifth Column guys have been podcasting or the extent to which they are embedded in a particular pundit ecosystem.

Now this is sensemaking! Also with follow up suggestion for a podcast to help resolve the issue.
@BretWeinstein I think you are wearing them because you maintain in your mind the version of theism that the atheists rejected and you also continue to embrace a type of reductionism. For that reason you are forced to create a divide you cannot resolve between metaphorical and literal. The «

Elon’s idiocy does sound like a background hum these days. It’s actually more surprising when he doesn’t come out and endorse a xenophobic bigot or call for violence somewhere.
When Tolkien wrote about the hobbits, he was referring to the gentlefolk of the English shires, who don’t realize the horrors that take place far away. They were able to live their lives in peace and tranquility, but only because they were protected by the hard men of Gondor.
