We love a collab & photoshoot! Quick and intriguing work by @kristina_buch_ and Ray Wightman at @slcuplants to image the moonflower under cryo-SEM. Have a look at some of the stunning images. Got any more ideas for research with #CUBG? Give us a holler!

We're very lucky to have @Cambridge_Uni scientists on site at @slcuplants. Today they took fresh plant material from our Strophocactus wittii faded flower & examined its petal surfaces and pollen. This might be the first time Strophocactus wittii has been seen in this way!
🌙🌼We had a special visitor today at @slcuplants! The famous #Moonflower from the @CUBotanicGarden had its tepals, petals & pollen examined under our cryo-SEM. Two more blooms are expected any day so follow the Moonflower Livestream 2024 at https://t.co/B36oi9vdkp

3 of 4/ Matt is a Teaching Associate in the Dept. of Zoology at U of Cam. Next time you're at the Botanics, look out for black pads on trees. These are traps used by Matt and his students to study spiders. They're exploring spider diversity present on different trees. #Research

2 of 4/ Notes from the talk include copious scribbles of phrases like “advanced parental methods, e.g., female schoolbus” and “spiders found in stratosphere (not on purpose! lolz oops)”. #SpiderFacts #Zoology

1 of 4/ Thank you to @WildlifeBCN for hosting Dr. Matt Wilkinson’s awesome talk "Spiders – What a Tangled Web They Weave" on November 27th. Every so often we step away from plants into the full throttle of Animalia! #Spiders #WildlifeTrust

A satisfying treasure hunt: I found 67 new type specimens of Asian and American #Meliaceae last week. They were "hiding" amongst the 1.1 million specimens of @CUHerb. They will soon be digitised and shared online, to facilitate the work of #taxonomists. @plantsci @CamGLAMresearch

As part of our project exploring soils and greenhouse gases in the Fens, PhD student Thomas Idris Marquand @EarthSciCam visited @CUBotanicGarden to analyse the soils in their #Fens display. Such a lovely part of the garden, but are the soils like the real Fen? Find out soon....

Still can't believe how stunning these RUBY tobacco roots are. Truly endless forms most beautiful. A great convo with @allybear64 got me inspired to play with rooooooooots. Can't wait to get back to land plant work once the lab relocation finishes.
