The overwhelming response from staff working in New Zealand universities to this call makes it clear that staff want their voices heard in our universities. We must find ways to raise our voices and collectively work together for the universities we want and deserve.

There is a big investment in tertiary in this budget!!! Increase in funding (5%) and an increase in allowable FTEs (16,000 more students!!!). This is really big and much needed for the sector! What we do with that is important. https://t.co/GgfuDkkpMd

Everything science and tech-related in the budget as far as I can tell - BusinessDesk reports the 3 science R&D hubs get $450 million of investment, a considerable sum. But is it all new money or repurposed from National Science Challenges etc? @drayeshaverrall

It's budget time for scientists as well as everybody else. Some first thoughts... (1/4) 1) The big chunk of change here is $400 million for new buildings to co-locate researchers. But what about the researchers themselves? On that note, not much to be excited about. (2/4)
