Mi casero me acaba de mandar esto. No tenía por qué hacerlo, pero puede pasar sin la cuota del alquiler y ha querido aportar su granito de arena. Me ha dejado sin palabras, la verdad. #gracias #COVID2019 #coronavirus

I should be qualified to comment on the covid-19 pandemic. I'm a computational/system biologist working on infectious diseases and have spent five years in a world class 'pandemic response modelling' unit. In this thread, I will summarise what I believe I (don't) know. (1/12)

Great read about how publishing low replicability studies doesn't make science less efficient, but quite the contrary! Perfect timing: one of my papers just got rejected, one of the reasons being that we haven't replicated our findings prior submission/publication

Good news: Taking a #vacation is associated with an increased likelihood of getting a raise or a promotion. No, I don’t care that it’s just a correlation. https://t.co/SObv3TXJ7H

I had been wondering about the connection between empathy and support of social hierarchies for a while. Thrilled to see some data on this!
Preference for hierarchy is associated with reduced empathy and increased counter-empathy towards others, especially out-group targets https://t.co/wfHnNUDYnT

1) In 2008 a salmon (yes the fish) was put through an MRI scanner. The salmon was shown a series of photographs of humans in social situations, and asked to determine the emotion of the person in the photo (yes, really).

Exciting new work out from @dongwon_oh and colleagues at @NatureHumBehav on how clothing-based cues of social status are systematically linked to impressions of competence. Dr. Jennifer Kubota and I summarize the findings and implications here: https://t.co/J1F641dHEO

Overall useful advice on what to work on for a successful career in science. Yet, to sum it up: excel at everything and work hard on all possible skills, including being a unicorn :) https://t.co/eIEC78Nf7w

Very cool and ambitious interdisciplinary project about the universality of music! Different from your every day science project. Very inspiring to see new ways of doing things and addressing old questions

PSA: it's not OK to cut the poster session at a conference if talks are going way over time. That's 90% of conference content (of mostly trainee work) being squashed to make space for the 10% (of mostly tenured profs) who did not keep to time. #AcademicTwitter #phdchat

In the journal #PsychologicalScience, 94.15% of studies published in 2014 were sampled from Western countries. While there is growing awareness, this sampling bias remains widespread in psychological sciences. Something we, as a community, need to tackle..
