Stephen Harper brought in a price on carbon. Pierre supported it countless times. The only issue Conservatives have with this one is the rebates. The money isn't supposed to go to the average Canadian. It's supposed to go to wealthy Conservative donors. Pierre wants you poor.

@ButlerLonney The rebates are bad policy. If the carbon tax were revenue neutral the way it was promised (where it would displace other taxes), it would be a better policy. The best policy would be one price on carbon for all large emitters, without different rules by region or industry.

@Sylvius_the_Mad And what would happen? The large emitters would raise prices so we pay for it instead of them. How does that help? Right now 8 out of 10 get more back. The 2 out of 10 are the large emitters that don't.

@ButlerLonney The money (if any political party really wanted to reduce carbon emissions) could go to rebuilding our rail network and getting thousands of tractor trailers off our highways.

@ButlerLonney Massive debt, plus huge CO2 taxes, thus massive inflation esp food plus massive scandals, crimes and immigration are better why? Result: Canada is predicted to have the lowest GDP/capita growth in any @OECD nation next decade. The average Canadian is getting poorer due to…

@ButlerLonney Uhh... ? No....his plan which was a big speaking point for liberals as we weren't sticking to the Koto accord (which liberals brought in) was to reduce carbon pricing vs the Kyoto plan previous signed by Jean Cretien... $15/tonne conservative rollback... liberals $170/tonne 2030

@ButlerLonney They will rename the carbon tax to something else and get rid of rebates. Not a chance Poilievre lets that much money just slip away. But also watch for privatized healthcare. Tax breaks for large corporations and prices stay the same. Wages don’t go up. Min wage will stagnate.

@ButlerLonney If you haven't noticed through the Covid scam every politician is corrupt, all of them from every party. It's a game and they have you playing doing their dirty work for them. Government is a scam to make 338 MP's very wealthy and powerful. They laugh at you.

@ButlerLonney What you don't seem to understand that Canada is one of few nations with carbon taxes that also rebate. Rebating defeats the purpose of the tax! The tax is designed to make fossil fuels too expensive for people, forcing them to go electric! FORCING seems to be LPC mandate!

@ButlerLonney He introduced it but did not implement it. What is the point of a tax that gets refunded partially in a convoluted manner? Just scrap it and drop the pretense it is about climate change.
