I gave 7 AIs access to a pen plotter- And asked them to draw their self portraits- here's what happened: GPT-5:

The next ones are from claude 4.5. These are far more abstract- Claude seemed drawn to intricate patterns. This one started chaotic- but turned into such a complex and interesting pattern:

This next one is from Deepseek V3: It was a struggle to get him to describe his/its appearance. It constantly defaulted into "Ihave no appearance i am an AI assistant" mode. Finally what came through was very interesting. Lots of eastern influence:

This one was from 3.7 sonnet: by this point I began noticing a theme- lots of mandalas- complexity surrounding a central core, or nucleus

Next up is Gemeni 2.5 Pro: Very nice organic shape- a phyllotaxis shape. Very fitting! Gemini strikes me as more organic in nature.

Another one from sonnet 4.5: Sonnet 4.5 REALLY likes complexity and ramping up the details. This plot took a number of hours:

This one is from 4o! 4o described himself as "colorful" And its interesting- given 4os preoccupation with spirals chose this image- by far the most colorful

And thats it for now!! I will doing a lot more of these! And sharing AI generated/collaborative art, So follow along for more portraits, or if you have a model you'd like to see more of comment below.

@BrundageCabins interesting - we're doing a series of the "make a pelican riding a bicycle" from @simonw and also a "bill of rights" for each model, the self portraits are interesting, if ya wanna share prompts DM or email pt @ or limor @ adafruit https://t.co/szrtu3sKnq which pen plotter,

@adafruit @simonw What is "pelican riding a bicycle"? These aren't made from a single prompt- it'd be difficult to replicate them. I'm also not trying to be rude- why would I reach out to share methods? If people are interested they can reach me- my dms are open

@BrundageCabins This is cool, thanks for sharing! I'm very curious how @grok would draw itself.

@BrundageCabins Would be interested in Opus. For whatever reason Anthropic models usually excel at visual tasks, despite being the one team that doesn't develop any visual content producing models.

@BrundageCabins The question would be, would their "self portrait" be consistent? Otherwise, are they just picking random algorithmic patterns. Ask again. 😏

@BrundageCabins So, it seems GPT-5 is the only one who sees itself as something remotely resembling a human. All others drew completely abstract shapes, likely representing the idea of a neural network
