I am so happy to share this work which I contributed to during my masters @MarineMicrobio, conducted at @marum_de, using mass spec imaging - an extremely powerful tool to examine abrupt changes in paleoclimate! Supported by a great News & Views @AR_Atwood
How did the annual temperature cycle in the tropical ocean respond to past events of global climate change? Reconstructed by mass spec imaging of marine sediments for the Younger Dryas-Holocene transition. @BoehmanBrenna @KaiUweHinrichs1. Out in @Nature

So proud to celebrate my Dad as he receives an endowed professorship at @UMich today, attending online, but I wish I was there in person. CONGRATULATIONS @AndreBoehman, you deserve it! You are my inspiration, as a scientist, mentor and so much more❤️

We're halfway through this huge #COP28, and so much has happened that it's impossible to summarise it all in one post, but here are 8 essential updates: 🧵 [1/11]

And this winter I'm visiting Bill Orsi's lab @LMU_Muenchen processing incubation experiments we designed to assess the mechanism of terrestrial organic carbon degradation when Amazon material mixes with marine. Using quantitative stable isotope probing (#qsip)

We couldn't have done any of this without the amazing crew of the R/V F.G. Walton Smith, who persevered through many challenges at sea and made sure we could get as much science done as possible! @univmiami @unols

A sneak peak at how we worked together to process 100s of L a day, when we ran out of N2 gas and had to pressurize our units with a bike pump 😆

We filtered 2500+ L of water! Couldn't have done it without our excellent water team, and these durable filtration units from Josh West (USC). Luckily @valiergaly and I had mastered the multi-unit manifold at this point :)

I had an awesome experience as team leader for water sampling, including making real-time decisions about which water depths to sample from CTD data, and how much water we should filter to obtain enough suspended sediment for our planned analyses on the particulate.

We used real-time satellite data from INPE to determine where to collect a marine sample with minimal influence from the #AmazonRiver plume. Sometimes we didn't need satellite data to see these gradients in salinity, CDOM and turbidity ourselves!

Our international and interdisciplinary team sampled water and sediments to measure DIC, CO2 outgassing, CDOM, DOC, total suspended sediment, and short lived radio-isotopes.

My first cruise at sea! 🤩🌊 We had a fantastic (long awaited) #NSF-funded research cruise to the Guianas Mudbanks in June 2023. To study the export of #AmazonRiver carbon, sampling from the river mouth up the coast of Northeastern Brazil, French Guiana and Suriname.
