Can we just take a moment to appreciate Barcelona punk band #PrisonAffair and the fact that they made an absolute banger about South American #crocodilians πΈπ https://t.co/AaeELRBAnH

One of the only pics I took during a wholesome 2 weeks in Zambia for some preliminary human-wildlife coexistence research (thanks to @MathewsFiona for letting me tag along on @SussexUni zoology field course!) My pal Dominic and I after a successful Finfoot hunt on the Kafue

Still buzzing from #HWCC2023 Getting to spend 3 days learning from some of the most brilliant minds in the world of human-wildlife conflict & coexistence was inspiring and made me proud to be part of this complex and important field of studyπ¦ππ Feeling hopeful for the future!
This picture is a testament to the rigour and interest on the problem of human-wildlife conflict and co-existence. It has been a warm confluence of cultures, identities, perspectives from all over the globe, that was able to build incredible consensus so quickly. #HWCC2023

Another fantastic day at #HWCC2023 yesterday. Everything from vertical fences for elephants to dry-needle felting for spectacled bears. Particularly loved the magical anthropological story telling of @sahilnijhawan π
Final day, bring on the reptiles! ππ @hwctf

Having a blast at #HWCC2023 meeting all the rockstars of the #humanwildlifeconflictandcoexistence world. Surreal moments chatting to researchers who's work I've read for the last 4 years, and nice to see so much representation, both human and animal. Bring on Day 2! @hwctf

Still got a dissertation to complete and a field trip to look forward to, but I hope my journey shows that there really is a place for everyone at this messy, vast, and expensive table we call academia- even for that confused, neurodiverse drop-out who loves hipposπ

The fact that @SussexLifeSci took a chance on someone as academically unattractive as me is something I will always be grateful for. Way too many individuals to name, but you know who you are and I can't thank you enough for all the support and encouragement

I never thought I would even set foot on a university campus, let alone get a degree. I dropped out of school at 15, was homeless for 4 years, got up to all kinds of questionable trouble, and worked more ridiculous, low-pay jobs than I care to remember

A mix of emotions today as I get ready for my last lecture @SussexUni πAfter 4 years of losing my shit at stats, last minute Turnitin's, ACTUAL DISSERTATIONS(!), and still not knowing how to use Excel, I can honestly say it's been the best thing that ever happened to me

LOOK AT THIS MOUSE!!! π Great fun with @MathewsFiona and her team teaching us all about small mammal research today @SussexUni! A definite new appreciation for our small and squeeky neighbours on campus πππ

An actual dream come true to attend @hwctf conference later this month- first heard of it in 2020 when I started my undergrad and now I get to attend as a masters student! Some potential clashes (@Marchini_Silvio, @A_WhiteShark and @s_pooley same day! ππ¦π) but so excited!
We're excited to share the full programme for the International Conference on Human-Wildlife Conflict & Coexistence at: https://t.co/1f9otS5awM

βIf you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heartβ- NM Nice to see a conservation project embracing local African languages! More of this please! https://t.co/vSkidc5pBv

The group says what better way to raise awareness about birds and birding than to name birds in South African languages

Well said @SteveJack, I also don't want my education to come at an expense to the working conditions and wellbeing of anyone! I fully support and respect all those taking part in the university teaching strikes, and I would urge my fellow students to do the same βββ #ucuRISING
Chair of Student Council @SteveJack on @GBNEWS "Once students have a conversation with striking workers they come to understand two things... Responsibility sits firmly with vice-chancellors and these striking workers are standing up for all of us" #StudentSolidarity #ucuRISING

Awesome! Hope to see more of this for other countries in the future ( I probably wouldn't have dropped out in grade 10 if this was the case in SA!)
