Underground happy hour? Excited to share our discovery of a new symbiosis between subsurface bacteria and archaea bridged by syntrophic transfer of the smallest alcohol—methanol! @Nature Work led by a former student Huang Yan, congratulations! https://t.co/icc1raepU6

The first major body of work from my PhD is now up on BioRxiv! We used AI-designed binders to block the uptake of heme from hemoglobin through ChuA, a heme transporter found in pathogenic E. coli. 🦠🩸🔬 I’m very grateful for my supervisors and all coauthors for their support!

Very excited to have come on board as the co-chair for this event alongside @greeninglab! Climate change is an urgent issue, and microbes are the solution! PhDs, ECRs all have reduced rego for this event, so look out for that + abstracts announcements soon! #enviromicro
Excited to launch the Microbial Solutions for a Changing World Conference, Nov 25-27, 2025 at Monash University! Join us for pivotal discussions on microbiology, climate change, and ecosystem restoration. Early bird rates available! https://t.co/NUzzgoLVtP

Ethane-oxidizing #archaea (close relatives of #methanogens) channel electrons from ethane to F420. The Fpo complex oxidizes F420, producing an H+ gradient and transferring electrons to bacteria, possibly via #nanowires. @NatureComms @MarineMicrobio

So excited to see this out! Aerated environments can be major sources of methane. This is due to the activities of aerotolerant methanogens. In the process, we show unexpected feedbacks between pollution and climate change. @ning_hall @MBiogeochem

Methanogenesis is classically thought to be limited to strictly anoxic environments. While oxygenated oceans are a known methane source, it is argued that methanogenesis is driven by methylphosphon...
