One of my favorite things in games is finding out "the devs thought of it."
I led this random Barney onto my train and took him with me and he has a script ("simple" as it may be) for this entire sequence that he is more likely to not be present for. Too cool.

Just the other night I played through the first Wutai quest in Final Fantasy 7. The entire quest line just does not happen if you don't get an entirely optional hidden party member.
Just bonkers to craft entire significant sections of a game that players can skip, I'm cackling.

Recently replayed Black Mesa and its so awesome. The devs really understood what made Half Life originally so special. Also the reworked version of Xen was amazing. Totally blew me away on my first playthrough.
