I’ve been observing this troublesome slogan of “Latinxs for Black Lives” for a few days now. And I understand the importance of a politics of solidarity, but at the cost of continuing the erasure of Black Latinxs is deeply painful. We are more than a festival.

Some of us come from centuries-old Black Indigenous Atlantic traditions where our day of the dead is everyday. Our ancestral altars are present daily. May this día de los muertos comfort our grief and sit with our beloved ancestors. #IndigenousBlackness

I say this with love (and as someone who is also feeling the stress of Melissa), it’s totally fine to donate through official government channels, but just remember that queer and trans people face particular challenges accessing support and care through those channels.

LaShawn Harris provides a crystal clear profile of the heinous police murder of Eleanor Bumpurs, the activism her death inspired, and ultimately the limits of “police reforms.” I can’t wait to dig into the book!

As you can see from my already worn proof copy I had the delightful chance to read Ashley Farmer’s significant contribution in the biography of Audley Queen Mother Moore. This book is thoroughly researched and well executed. could serve as a textbook in black 20th century thought
