Agricultural actors rely on teamwork, knowledge-sharing, and financial support to manage changes. A recent study highlights the importance of social connections in shaping how agricultural systems adapt for exports. Learn more: https://t.co/8biiaYRZI7

However, actors' uneven network participation can influence their capacity to deal with change. Local market actors such as informal traders have a limited participation in such networks, potentially challenging their capacity to deal with change.

Responses based on social networks rely on: collaboration, knowledge, financial and marketing relations amongst actors internal and external to the supply chain.

We found key social relationships and networks amongst supply chain actors that are used in responding to such changes. Networks containing different types of relationships often overlap, although this is not always the case and depends on the type of relationship.

We investigated how a fruit supply chain in the Western Cape, South Africa, responds to multiple changes that challenge the production and trade of fruit, such as droughts, increasing costs, and the pandemic.
