MCA can be adapted to other (brain) maps where the regions have meaningful order, such as sensory processing hierarchies, as we show in our GitHub demo (link in the paper). 4/5.

This helps understand the link between the "space" and "time" aspects of tangle accumulation. Further, these spatiotemporal profiles can be assessed with regard to cognitive decline, fluid biomarker levels or any other subject-wise manifestations of AD at different stages. 3/5.

The technique, called Manifold Component Analysis (MCA), decomposes 3D maps of tangle accumulation in the brain into (pseudo)continuous 1D series ranging from the early stages' regions on the left gradually to the late stages on the right. 2/5.
