CLE fans not understanding the amount of risk that went into Watson’s contract vs Burrow’s, Herbert’s and Lamar’s is a weird thing. If Watson can get back to his for 3 years ago (or really better), then the contract is fine. If he’s 2022 Watson, it’s the worst contract in history
#Browns
give Deshaun Watson $230M guaranteed with $46M/year average salary = worst contract in NFL history.
#Bengals
give Joe Burrow $219M guaranteed with $55M/year average salary = great move to secure a quarterback.
Deshaun Watson: 260 YPG, 102.3 RTG, 3x Pro Bowl
Joe Burrow:…

The draft capital given up when they traded for him is something that has to be factored into things as well. It's not just the contract extension. They gave up far more to get him there.

Bengals fans not understanding the amount of risk paying burrow 55 million per year, being the highest sacked qb in the league, having one of the worst passing offensive line, and him being hurt once because of it is definitely weird as well

You realize that OL is essentially fixed, right? That OL (minus OBJr) had a run for 8 games mid season where they performed like a top 10 unit. Cincy was 8-0 during that run.

@thedawgspodcast
You’ve at least seen it done from Watson to be fair. The others all have their question marks as well. Burrow has been hurt and gets sacked more than anybody. Lamar has been hurt and his style of qb play tends to not last long (he’s already past norm). Herb hasn’t done anything
@MajinJuunior
@thedawgspodcast
Seen it done? Burrow, Lamar and Hurts have all had better seasons than Watson. Herbert really has too, he just hasn’t seen the team success. Lamar’s is only a risk because of injury.

Would that also be risky to pay a QB whi blew his knee out 2 years ago and is now dealing with calf issues this year. Same risk. I would say.
@K_J_A_M
@thedawgspodcast
A strained calf is not “calf issues”. A strained muscle goes away & generally doesn’t come back. It’s no more vulnerable after the injury than it was before.
As far as the knee. Tom Brady had the same injury 15 yrs ago. We saw how that worked out. You’re reaching. Badly too.

2023 is the make or break year. If he looks like 2020 Watson it’s a great move. If he looks like last 6 games of 22 Watson (and it wasn’t just rust), the entire front office should be fired

@thedawgspodcast
I don’t think the Browns have extended a QB since the 80s (I could be wrong though), so by that math, most of their fans on here probably weren’t even alive for the last Browns QB extension. Wouldn’t expect them to understand how something like that works.
@BengalsNation8
@thedawgspodcast
fans outside of CLE not understanding they had a win now roster w/o a win now QB...options were limited...draft a rookie QB likely outside of the top 10 (the QB classes have been garbage) or get a high upside QB and take your shot...the downside is the Browns start over again 🤷♂️

He’s 27 years old he’s not 40 that’s like u going on vacation for 2week and going to back to work and forgetting how to your job in your youth and physical prime. Y’all are hilarious. He’ll be fine.

Watson is a great qb.
He'll be great this season.
His teammates say so.
Media and fans......don't know and just guess or hope.
