The problem with this is that the Minister for Care, Stephen Kinnock, has told MPs no fewer than 14 times that the Government is neutral on the passage of this Bill and on the principle of assisted dying. If they had a surreptitious mission all along, he has lied to Parliament.
EXC - I've seen a leaked policy document from Labour in opposition which sets out how to approach assisted dying. The document sets out how it could be introduced as a private member’s bill, suggesting that would still allow “heavy influence” for the government in the process

This is not a threat as I am completely insignificant. No one in Labour would care. But I am opposed to assisted suicide and to subvert such a matter of conscience would be morally abhorrent, constitutionally villainous, and simply cowardly.

The leadership's approach on AS has nearly driven me to quit Labour several times. Were it proven, as the existence of the note implies, that the leadership not only acted less than neutral once confronted with a Bill, but actively planned for and directed it, I would quit.
Full story here - The leak will raise fresh questions over how much government control there has been behind Leadbeater’s bill. https://t.co/lZR8lCnCZz

Amidst a very productive day for 'life admin' I made the terrible mistake of trying to get rid of an unused piece of garden furniture for free on Facebook marketplace. I've now received 20+ messages in the space of one hour. They will not leave me in peace. Please make it stop.

Striking - and depressing - that none of the tax reform measures jointly called for by @CPSThinkTank, @ASI, @CenTaxUK, @IPPR, @WeAreBrightBlue, @jrf_uk, @DanNeidle @NEF, @LabourTogether appear to have been included. As last year, it's all hikes, no reform...

But the effects on hours of minimum wage rises mean even some young people in work will lose out. Their hourly wage might be higher, but they will be offered fewer hours and earn less in total.

This is especially true for young people. Even the Resolution Foundation is warning that the (anticipated) 8.5 per cent increase in the 18-20s minimum wage will likely slow/reduce hiring, when the number of young people in work is already lower than it was pre-General Election...

Important to note that the econometric evidence on minimum wage increases, while mixed, typically finds that negative effects manifest in fewer hours and lower job quality. Lack of hours is the main driver of low earnings, today's budget fairly likely to make that worse...
A reminder that most "low pay" in Britain isn't low because the person is paid a low hourly wage – it's low because of a lack of hours over the course of a week

Britain needs nuclear power. Our nuclear projects are the most expensive in the world and among the slowest. Regulators and industry are paralysed by risk aversion. This can change. For Britain to prosper, it must. Earlier this year, the Prime Minister appointed me to lead a

Shopping for gifts for my niece and nephew is the only time I enjoy shopping. It is just an exercise in picking which Lego I get to build and re-live my childhood with. Staring at a £300 Barad-dûr set knowing I cannot afford it at all and they are too young, but still tempted...

Excellent report by my colleague @JoshNicholson50 on how we get the skills to build the homes we desperately need.
🚨NEW CSJ REPORT🚨 One in three builders is now OVER the age of 50 and 130,000 are 65+👷 Meanwhile the number of young people in construction has collapsed by over 150,000 since 2008. We are in the midst of a workforce crisis that threatens Britain’s ability to build. 🧵👇

Call me a cricket traditionalist, but I prefer the longer form game of The Hundred to Ashes Test matches.

If I asked you which country has the most progressive tax system in the developed world — where high earners hand over an especially large share of their income relative to the average worker — what would your answer be? The answer is in fact Britain. https://t.co/BlW00DT2ja

The number of NEETs remains stubbornly high, at 946,000. The Government says its a priority but keeps delaying serious action with endless reviews. It is past time to stop prevaricating and start governing...
