Epic & dark fantasy author: Emaneska Series, Chasing Graves, Heart of Stone, Scarlet Star Trilogy, & Scalussen Chronicles. Archer. Mischievous pest 🇬🇧/🇨🇦
I can't sit on this any longer, so here we go!
It's been almost 10 years since I published my western fantasy Scarlet Star Trilogy, and to celebrate this weird little series, I'm giving it a huge facelift. This means NEW COVERS, and I'm proud to finally show them off publicly🤘
I've received a delightful complaint from a reader detailing all the errors in one of my books. Every single error with page numbers and corrections.
Problem is, every single one of the errors they've flagged isn't an error.
It's merely an instance of UK English.
Every one.
@DianeW_author
Pretty much, without a) even considering UK English exists, or b) rejecting the validity of its existence.
It's the sheer amount of time that must have taken them.
THE 7 STAGES OF GIN APPRECIATION:
- gin is just for Victorian widows
- gin should only be mixed in cocktails
- is this gin? It tastes far too good for gin
- I only drink specialty gins now
- which is your cheapest gin?
- gin is perfectly acceptable for breakfast
- I am become gin
Here’s the image of the black hole in context. That tiny spot is the black hole, 6.5 billion times the mass of our sun. The astrophysical jet protruding from it is 1000 light years long. The rest of the image is the entire M87 galaxy, the thing it’s feeding off. Mind = blown.
This is outrageous. I don’t think fantasy publishers houses should use stock art full stop. Covers should be original. But AI stock art cobbled together from the work of artists who didn’t give their permission to Midjourney? That’s some cheap shit right there

IT GETS BETTER. The narrator for Caltro the main character in Chasing Graves is Samuel Roukin, who happens to be the voice of Ghost in
#MW2
, which is weird AF because Caltro is ALSO A GHOST. Mind = blown.
Giveaway time!🤘To celebrate today's launch of the Chasing Graves Trilogy hardcovers, I'm giving away a FULL SIGNED SET of this dark fantasy series.
3 signed hardcovers = all yours. All you have to do is ❤️ & 🔄 to enter
Winner will be announced June 7 and open internationally
13 years ago I wrote a book about mages with spellbooks tattooed on their backs. Because of the weight of magic these mages usually go a *bit* mad later in life. Either they die in battle or are banished with a single gold coin. 13 years later and I’ve had the excuse to get… 🧵

Think you need to read more SFF. It’s always been cultural, or political, or about human struggle and nature. We write human stories that are extrapolated or distilled from the world around us. Blame the world, not the writers.

depress me deeply. Not only because Amazon is rewarding/ignoring these blatant scammers, but because being a bestseller now depends on how well you can scam, instead of how you write or how you tell a goddamn story. These people aren’t authors.
Reviews are incredibly helpful to authors. Whether it's a comment or a simple rating, reviews affect sales, and help writers to earn a living, which means more fantastic fiction for you in the long run! So, if you can spare a few minutes this Friday, go review a damn book.
It's not only big announcement time but it's also GIVEAWAY TIME. The news is that Demon's Reign has done so well that it's been released in paperback, and
@davidestesbooks
and I are giving away the only signed copy in existence!
🔥To enter just RT and follow us both 🔥
This whole “write drunk, edit sober” thing is fine until you find a half-finished chapter with a note at the end saying:
“If you’re reading this, Sober Ben, I tried. Tell them I tried. Succeed where I failed.”
Drunk Ben is a bastard.

The horror genre is built on the definition of horror – "intense fear, shock, or disgust". This is independent of setting. Alien, Life, Gravity, Event Horizon etc evoke that feeling. Space is an endless void filled with everything & nothing at the same time. That's scary as shit
Once again and louder for the people in the back, if you write to me about people of the European Middle Ages didn’t have this armour or that armour…
IT. IS. CALLED. FANTASY. FOR. A. FUCKING. REASON.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk
Publishing is publishing. Whether you put “self”, “indie”, “traditional” or “hybrid” in front, it’s still publishing. It’s about time we forget about the perceived hierarchy behind the methods of publishing a book and remember WE’RE PUBLISHING BOOKS. We share the same goal.
10 years of writing.
12 books published.
1.5 million+ words.
Countless hours of work.
And I still don’t know whether it’s bloody “affect” or “effect”...
Today is my balloon day, and to celebrate I’ve decided to run the biggest sale I’ve ever run. Every single one of my books, short stories, and novellas is either 99c or free for the next 3 days: . My birthday is your birthday.
Because I’m a glutton for punishment and this idea was driving me mad, I’m writing another book and releasing a chapter a week. It’s called Somebody Has To Be The Dark Lord. 1/3
I wanted to spare a moment to say a HUGE thank you to all the bloggers and reviewers who took part in the
#UltimateBlogTour
, and to
@The_WriteReads
/
@WriteReadsTours
for organising this gigantic blog tour for little ole me. I'm still grinning from all your feedback! You rock 🤘
A GAME. Here’s a bunch of fantasy worlds. You can choose three and three only. No bloody cheating here.
- one to visit only once
- one to rule
- one to destroy

The best edges are sprayed edges. Since the The Written illustrated editions arrived last week I’ve been airbrushing tf out of them. 100 down, 250 to go. Here’s a little peek at how I’m doing it:
And because I’m channelling some excellent vibes today, I can finally reveal the cover for the Pale Kings Illustrated Edition (Emaneska book 2)
Kickstarter project coming very soon, and yes you’ll be able to get book 1 as well 🤘
I might just be getting better at this sketching stuff...
Since January I've been attempting to sketch out things from my book worlds. I'm very amateur still but it's a fun escape.
Meet the Grave of the Ogin - a valley filled with a forest of rusted, giant swords.
Wow, so, nobody read Courting Fate! It has a typo in it, which has never before happened in any published book! The audacity of me! 😱
(FYI, I had an editor for this book, lol! This will happen with any book, as we are all humans working on them...)
My Permanent Residency application for Canada has finally been submitted. At 224 A4 pages, it’s actually longer than some of my books. Wish me luck and may the immigration gods smile upon me!
Daaaaamn... check out this new artwork for the main characters of my Emaneska Series! This art will be going onto postcards as rewards for the Written Hardcover kickstarter project, but they might also be prizes and prints very soon 🤘 (art by the excellent Lain Valentine)
This week just keeps on getting better. First an
#SPFBO
finalist, and now I'm thrilled to reveal the The Written Illustrated Hardcover. It launches TOMORROW on
#kickstarter
. Here's the first official look at the new cover and a link to be notified:
Don’t get me wrong, George is fantastic, but HBO does know there are quite a few other fantasy authors and other fantasy books available to adapt....... right?
It's launch day and I am buzzing. HEAVY LIES THE CROWN has finally been unleashed. I thought I would do something mad to celebrate. You can get book 1 for $1.99 AND pick up the whole previous series free for the next 48 hours... Mad I tell you.
⚔️⚔️
In case you missed it... the first ever copy of The Written Illustrated Edition that we kickstarted arrived this week. 350 are being printed and bound right this moment!
To hell with it! I was going to show this off tomorrow, but I’m too fucking excited. Meet the cover concept I’ve drawn and arted for THE FOREVER KING, Book 1 of the Scalussen Chronicles.
There’ll be a blog up tomorrow all about the concept, the backstory, how I made it.
With that, Team BWGB has our five semi-finalists!!
They are as follows: Demons, Inc by
@ClaytonSnyder2
, The Forever King by
@BenGalley
, Stranger Back Home by E.L. Haines, The Inner Lands - Something Stirs by
@author_austin
and Sword of the Scarred by
@HallToElsewhere
Sharing a little close-up of this epic illustration that'll be included in the Pale Kings Kickstarter. Very excited to share more info soon as well as the new cover 👀
…these banishment coins made. Sadly not out of gold but exactly as I imagined and wrote them, even with the language I invented for the Emaneska world.
It’s making the things in your mind real that makes being an author so fun:
I haven’t seen my mum for 4 years thanks to covid and immigration stress. Last week my favourite tiny human finally managed to make it out to the Great White North to celebrate my 35th with me. Best present ever.
Here’s the line: If an author calls a pauldron a vambrace, that’s an error in armour nomenclature. That’s appreciated. Telling an author a character in a medieval-inspired fantasy setting shouldn’t have intricate plate mail when there’s magic and dragons in the same scene? No.
Today I will mostly be planning the release of these chonks: Chasing Graves Trilogy hardcovers. I’ve been sitting on these for a while and it’s finally time to unleash
IT'S COVER REVEAL TIME! It gives me huge pleasure to reveal the cover of GRIM SOLACE, book 2 of the Chasing Graves Trilogy, by
