Or…. ‘How can we retail the increased biodiversity we will achieve by forcing producers to do our environmental hard work for us for no financial reward?’
Our think tank this morning at #RWGLIVE24 entitled 'How can retail increase biodiversity?' CEO, Helen Dickinson, was joined by a panel of retailers to discuss their nature strategies, share best practice and any challenges faced in integrating nature into climate strategies.

This is incredibly rich from a monopoly sector which has spent decades hammering UK farmers to the point where many are frequently forced to sell below their own costs of production while retailers import cheaper, lower quality food at the drop of a hat to boost record profits.
In @thetimes this morning. Whilst Mr Roberts may have a point, isn’t this a case of “the pot calling the kettle black?” The main reason for lack of producer investment is the poor return on food production. (Yes, how little the retailers want to pay the farmer!)

I tried to distill why farmers are so angry into a single tweet. Summery as follows - We’ve had enough of working for nothing, to produce something everyone needs, while being told we’re doing a shit job of it, by people who’ve never done it. I think that covers it?

Dad’s 75th birthday yesterday so we had a farm slideshow. He took us back to the late 60’s and early 70’s. Unloading clay land drains and putting them in. Check out the elms. He’s a great photographer and the image quality on the big screen was ace. 1/2 #vintagefarming

Next the slides took us to haymaking. Loving the neat stacks for the Perry loader and 9 high is comendable. The family always had mini pickups until I was about 10, so nice to see. That field was dug for gravel and now a nature reserve 2/3 #minipickup #haymaking

In celebration of his 89th birthday today, a wonderful photo of my Dad aged 20 carting sugar beet in the snow with a David Brown crawler & Wheatley trailer during February 1955.

I don't know why we bother, newly planted hedge just driven over over its entire length, what possess people to do this, just mindless vandalism.

Not just happening in the Uk…!
Rumour has it that Woodside are the front runners to buy Merredin Farms, 80000ha of grain and livestock growing country. Very high chance that this farm will be now planted to trees for carbon credits. How do we stop this and other farms being bought and planted to trees??

"Their vital role in feeding the nation"? #TheyJustStackTheShelves & do a pretty poor job of it. You listened to a room of vultures deciding how best to pick the last few morsels off the bones of an industry they're killing, while shitting over the environment we try to care for.
I was delighted to meet supermarket leaders and their trade body @_thebrc this week. We discussed their vital role in feeding the nation. We are committed to working with them to #BackBritishFarmers and help shoppers be assured of high-quality food at a fair price. 🚜

HS2 farmland compulsory purchased can now be bought back by farmers at a higher cost. If not bought back it will be sold as development land because it was going to be built on. I smell a rat and the next scandal.
