As you can see, the Founding Fathers knew the correct meaning of the word DEMOCRACY and folks,
WE AIN'T NO DEMOCRACY!!! We may have democratic characteristics as we citizens participate in governing only to the point of voting in our representatives who then decide on laws etc.
And as far as States Rights goes, a state constitution can stipulate if it's citizens can directly vote on ballot measures or propositions by sheer majority rule if so stated
