'You have to ask yourself why would anybody put themselves through that on a Sunday morning'
Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton spoke to
#BBCBreakfast
after hundreds of grassroots referees told the BBC they fear for their safety when refereeing
@BBCBreakfast
They should issue fines if there's any fighting on the field with the referees or with the players and kick them out of the game for life
@BBCBreakfast
If PL referees applied the current laws rigorously most games would be 5 a side in 10 mins. It starts from the top. There would be an initial outcry but it would quickly change. Chris won’t say this but he should.
@BBCBreakfast
@BBCNews
Until professional footballers stop surrounding the ref, wave imaginary cards, question every decision and stop swearing, the kids who idolise them will copy them. Oh, and commentators like Mr Sutton can call out the bad behaviour on Match of the Day
@BBCBreakfast
Hypocrisy from Chris here, if you view his commentary on Scottish football, he essentially accuses the referees up here of cheating to help one club above another, putting untold pressure & encourages fans to accuse & threaten the officials.
@BBCBreakfast
Chris sutton has a history of trying to get people to believe refs in scotland are corrupt and in turn puts their safety at risk, Chris Sutton is nothing but a stinking hypocrite
@BBCBreakfast
I really think
@BBCBreakfast
should have been looking into the way in which Sutton has went after and attacked referees in the past before asking him on to comment on this issue
@BBCBreakfast
The absolute brass neck on you
@chris_sutton73
You have made a punditry living out of stirring up trouble in Scotland. You are part of the problem!
