Its very effective when used on a base that thrives on being victims. They can't put their finger on why they are victims but they know they feel like it. So they strike out in blind rage until someone parrots their feelings and channels their rage.
"We're not fascists, we're just gonna have armed riots if you successfully prosecute our fascist leader for breaking the law" isn't the best campaign strategy for midterms.

And instead of responding to those adversarial challenges & trying to continue to improve their lives, they gave up. They let themselves be consumed with bitterness and anger. And they don't take responsibility for their own lives and the role they played in their own situation.

I think part of the problem is in how people seem to want their life to be guided. Socrates would weep at how few people examined their lives. So many just want to get in line and follow the rules. Only the rules let them down.

There's lots of reasons why. A lot of wht people peaked in high school. The futures that they had imagined for themselves never came true because of economics, situations in their own life, a lack of preparedness for what the world is and how it changes.
