I was so impressed by the bright and talented trainees I met at @governmentlegal ’s Leeds office. I fully recommend aspiring barristers and solicitors in the region to consider applying to become a government lawyer. Trust me - there is no better career.

No-one was safe from Carl Ellitts’ ferocious and brutal crime spree and one person sadly lost their life just for withdrawing money from an ATM. The court has increased Ellitts’ sentence sending a clear message that murder and violence will be punished.

A robust disclosure regime is essential for the criminal justice system. Today’s @HMCPSI independent inspectorate report has clear actions for @UKSFO to drive improvements but I was pleased to note progress. This is something I will continue to monitor.

Tarja led a gang that supplied large quantities of drugs, and the courts agreed his sentence was unduly lenient. Class A drugs are a scourge on local communities, and we will act with the full force of the law to prevent drug trafficking.

The Horizon scandal has shown that public confidence in prosecutions has been shaken. That is why it was so important we convened the Whitehall Prosecutors Group to discuss best practice and ideas on how we achieve prosecutorial excellence.

Creddy Taylor took part in a violent burglary of a pregnant woman’s house. His actions were deplorable, and his extended sentence is a clear warning that burglars will be punished to the full extent of the law.

Longmate's abuse of his position for sexual gain was abhorrent. I welcome the court’s decision to jail Matthew Longmate sending a clear message that you will be punished for causing misconduct in public office.
