We strongly condemn the IIT Bombay administration's decision to cancel the panel discussion "What it Takes: Re-making the Workplace (Or, How Bhanwari Devi changed our world)" that was scheduled for January 4, 2025.

A few days ago, Hindus made an elderly Dalit Hindu belonging to the Pasi caste lick urine. Now Dalit Hindus of Pasi community of that area are abandoning Hinduism and are completely boycotting it. It is good to see that people are becoming aware and self-respecting.🙏🏻❤️

#Horrific In Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla, three teachers, including the headmaster of a govt school, brutally assaulted an 8-year-old Dalit boy and put a live scorpion in his pants. This barbaric act shows how caste hatred still thrives even inside our schools! #DalitLivesMatter

Why do Dalits need police protection for a wedding procession? Isn't it their fundamental right to celebrate? #CasteismKills

PoV: After losing all casteist friends ✊🏽 The air feels lighter. The silence feels safer. No more “just jokes” about reservations. No more discomfort when Ambedkar’s name is spoken. No more pretending hate is opinion. Losing them wasn’t a loss, it was freedom. Peace begins

The administration must take responsibility for the incident and ensure that steps are being taken to protect the students, their data and privacy.

We invoke the administration to connect with student bodies like Saathi and chalk out serious structural reconsiderations so that resident students, especially LGBTQ+ community of IITB can feel safe inside campus - to express ourselves and be.

This behavior is unprecedented and confusing. Who is the Institute saving? What powers do the Vigilance team have? What agency do students have in their own bodies and personal spaces to be safe inside campus?

The stance of the administration to not inform the students at risk is irresponsible. We have seen the same pattern when under similar circumstances in Hostel 10, the residents had to protest and only then did DOSA and the hall manager send out a common email to residents.

Under which jurisdiction and without any lawyer presence or informing students could the Vigilance Team keep the phone of Pandey for days and watch these extremely sensitive videos, instead of handing over to the Police?

the contents of the videos and the steps being taken to prevent their circulation be circulated among the student community. We demand answers from the administration as to why there was a delay of four days in filing F.I.R.?

As an immediate measure that the administration takes responsibility and accountability for the incident happening in the campus space, we demand that an email with the particulars of the incident,...

And no, we do not want CCTVs installed in front of our washrooms as a solution for this.

The Dean of Students Affairs needs to acknowledge the risk and threat that this incident has posed. The magnum of sexual misconduct that this is, needs to be highlighted by the administration and make students at risk aware of this.

How else does one explain the delay and cold-feet of admin to lodge an FIR against Pandey when he was in fact caught red-handed? It is what makes the administration impervious to questions of students , which makes the administration brush off the concerns as trivialities.

The CSO’s and DOSA’s response reveals the upper caste and bigoted nature of the elite Hindu bias perhaps. We wonder if it is Pandey’s last name that safeguards and protects him.

In a conversation that few students had with the CSO, he confirmed that Pandey was an alumnus and thereby no restriction can be put on his movement to campus, within hostel spaces and nobody can stop him from entering washrooms.

The student who first brought the incident to light was not offered any counselling in the immediate aftermath. There was no mechanism to make the student feel safe and protected in the immediate aftermath of being subjected to such a gruesome violation of his privacy.

The F.I.R. is a flimsy one, and only mentions in passing that the videos were numerous, and the contents pornographic and voyeuristic. No action has been taken against Pandey so far. He remains free to enter campus.

Finally, followed by pressure from few concerned students and faculty who enquired into the incident, a F.I.R report was filed by the institution on the night of 16th October, 4 days post the incident.

Since the same washrooms are also used by female guests, were there any videos of females found in his device? Instead of providing answers, the admin has directed hostel and academic representatives to disregard and not consider questions from student community on this matter.
